Importing a Piano Accordion

    Hi all,

I'm aware this sort of question regularly gets asked, but using the search function only returned a few threads about importing guitars.

I'd like to import a piano accordion from outside of the EU.
It seems there is no escaping the 21% VAT on an import, but what about duty? Is duty applicable in this case?

Also, is VAT calculated on the insured value of the package + postage cost?
And is duty calculated on the same value, or is it a sort of compound system?

    Thanks.
