Would have posted this in Soccer but I ain't allowed in there yet! Also, my point isn't really football related...

Imagine now, if (and it's a BIG if), Rangers got to the final, would it be the first time in history a European final would have to have the venue changed for security reasons?

We all know the trouble they caused in Manchester and I'm sure some of you remember a tie with Shelbourne in 1998 had to be moved to England.

I'm asking, would you be happy at the thought of 100,000+ Rangers fans descending on Dublin come May?

    Yes.

I doubt you would have 100,000+, capacity is just over 50,000 and Rangers would have an allocation of ~17000. You might get a minority who would be up for trouble but those will be well policed.

More hope of Shamrock Rovers been in the Europa final than Rangers imo :D Wonder when tickets go on sale for it. Best chance of getting to a major european final on the cheap.

They took more than 100,000 to Manchester. Most go for the fun of it and the fact it's close.

If 100,000 rangers fans came to Dublin.

They probably would get ****faced drunk.

Not all rangers fans are scumbags, there are as many retarded sectarian celtic scumbags as there are with rangers

I don't have a problem with the majority of Rangers fans and I wouldn't have a problem with them coming here. What I would have a problem with though is the smaller idiotic element coming up against the smaller idiotic element from Ireland who don't want them here. That would be a problem.

Can you imagine a crowd of guys in Rangers jerseys with Union Jacks draped over their shoulders going into a Dublin pub and there not being any trouble?

Rangers and Celtic dont have "supporters" they have biggots. Wouldnt cross the road to see either team.

Ya let's all group fans of the same team together in the one negative light. There are bad fans in every country and for every team. There's just as much chance of a Man City fan being a dick as there is Celtic or Rangers.

I don't know what a 'biggot' is but I'm a Celtic fan and I can assure you I am no bigot.

theres two ways this could play out

Rangers could win and everything fine

Rangers could lose and about 200-300 with cause trouble

Our Gardai wont mind which happens as they are will capable to handle theses people using there peacemakers as demonstrated in the Ireland V England game in the 90s

Also I would have no issue with union jacks going down templebar due to the fact that Irish fans travel Europe supporting Premier league teams with tri colours

Depending on the pub. If the pub was full of low life spineless knackers, yes. If the pub was full of Normal decent people like most of us, No.

It happens every sencond year when England play Rugby here. Theres never any trouble. Why? Its generally a sport not supported by scumbags

(the rules are a little complicated and somewhat above the comprehension of someone with an IQ under 90, hence rules out scumbags)

I would be surprised if you could get 100,000 people to Dublin from Glasgow in a short space of time. With Manchester, they had the option of flying, driving, buses or train journey. These options are more limited for travelling to Dublin for the final. I have no doubt you would get a lot of supporters with probably a lot from the north.

I'm sure that some trouble would take place but the Gardai prepare for such things to happen at every sporting event

BTW fat chance Rangers or Celtic will get to the Final. It will probably be Shaktar against Juve in a match to see who can stay awake the longest.

Why on earth would anyone imagine a Scottish side would even get near the EL final in 2011? I call shennianigans, this is just going to be a Hun turning into Brit-bash thread.

(Some) Rangers supporters made absolute shit of Manchester, and the same could easily happen again. Throw in the scumbag section of Celtic supporters and it'd be a recipe for disaster like nothing else seen before, apart from Landowne in 1996.

However, it's all pointless hypothetics because Rangers are crap.

Celtic and Rangers (and Fulham and Middlesbrough) have all reached UEFA/Europa cup finals in the last 7 years, so for anyone to say it's ridiculous is a bit far off...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 132 ✭✭leinsterrugby

and alaves reached final in 2001 probably the smallest team to reach a european final in recent times so yeah anything is possible.

Every little toe rag that was out at the love ulster parade will be out in force. I would say get our own house in order before commenting on others.

P.S The shelbourne match that was moved to Prenton Park was because the Garda said they could not ensure the safety of travelling fans.

Well that was partly my point.

I didn't mean that all these big bad Rangers fans were gonna come here and kick up a fuss, there's more than enough people in Ireland that would be happy for the chance to kick seven shades of the proverbial out of them.

It would be a recipe for disaster.

i seem to remember that the gardai were caught off guard on that one and basically made the best out of a bad situation? Look at the love ulster parade, that was over a decade later and they knew there may have been trouble. Hopefully things have changed since then.
