I'm going to Boston next week and I changed money on Friday in the bank. I've just looked and noticed that I was given three $100 notes as part of it. Are people in shops/restaurants etc suspicious of these or do they readily accept them? Should I go back and ask for smaller notes?

You'll have no problem in getting rid of them though buying a $2 pack of gum with one of them may not be all that welcome depending on where you are.

In the US you won't have any issues,

OK cool thanks guys. I just had some vague recollection of them not being readily accepted.

You will have no problem spending them, however just don't get offended when they clearly check them incase of counterfeit in front of you. Last time I got foreign exchange in AIB they only gave me $50's and told me they no longer give out $100's. It is not like here where a €100 note is rare, hundred dollar bills are common and plentiful over there.
