Can a person go out with the opposite sex to have fun?

I like this guy who is divorced and has a son. He doesn't drink and spends alot of his time with his kid. He has asked me to come along next week to a kiddies thing in town.

Im thinking of going but what do i do? Im single and dont have kids myself. This is a whole new thing to me going out without drink and bringing kids along too.

This should be a good experience. Are you honestly saying you can't go out with somebody and have a purely platonic, fun experience without drink involved? The Celtic Tiger has a lot to answer for, IMO.

I would love to go out without drink. But what can you do? And drink kinda makes things a bit easier. Sounds stupid!

Is it a date OP? That's a bit unclear from your post.

Probably not cause the kid is coming too. Probably just a fun day out.

Seems like it is probably just a fun day out. Although he could be putting the horse before the cart and seeing how you click with his little 'un before making any kind of romantic move on you. Or it may just be as friends. Keep an open mind. :)

It will probably be a fun day out if nothing else, nice to do something different. If you then find he is not interested in you in a romantic way then don't go making a habit of spending your weekends with him and his kid as that would deprive you of meeting someone who is keen.

I think this is the most important statement from what you said.. What do you hope to achieve from this outing. Are you subconsciously hoping that something will develop on a romantic level? Would you be disappointed if it doesnt?

As a guy, I think it may have been his way of asking you out, without having to commit to actually ask you on a date and risk rejection.. By saying that the child is coming as well, it makes it seem less like a date..

It's a little sad that people seem to have genuine difficulties engaging with other people without alcohol automatically playing a role. I know there is that whole funny haha great craic Irish thing and I'm not saying it's not cool but there is def'ny a few sh1tty sides to it and that's one of them for sure.
Obviously going out with the kid for a fun day means something different from the usual get blottered, talk sh1te, have 'craic' sort of date. But I bet it will be a lot less awkward then you might think and you will actually enjoy it.
