    I've an E39 Beemer

Its dotted with the supermarket rash etc.

Basically it needs remedial work, both sides.

Any bodyshop I've talked to wants €four figures...

Is there anyone sensible out there?

They probably are sensible. People don't realise the amount of work there is to paint a panel and remove theses small dents. To be fair your small one man operation will do as good a job as any other for a lot cheaper so I would look for some one like that.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

I've an E39 too. Mine is far from perfect too and neither of our cars should be mentioned in the classic car forum for another decade or two :)

    Moved to motors...

    They were born a classic.

Mine (525i) is running along the banger economics theory, thus couldn't justify the plastic surgery costs.

I reckoned on two years motoring then scrap it, truth is I think I'll store it, got the space so why not? maybe an offspring will discover it in years to come and enjoy it.

Mate, I used to do bodywork so I know what's involved and it can be hard work. But... my missus got a quote of €600 to respray a stonechipped bonnet on her Golf. Thats taking the p*ss as far as I'm concerned.
