volvo v40

    what are the volvo v40s like for reliability. i saw a 00 1.9 diesel going cheap around a grand and am looking for opinions. they are probally not too quick but are they light on diesel and are they reliable?

    If its defo the 2000 model they were better developed than the renault version (running gear). Good solid car with good economy, make sure you get a service history with it and get some one to check it over. For a grand you could'nt go too far wrong

    The V40 shared it's platform with the Mitsubishi Carisma, the 1.9 TD was a Renault unit. Try and get a facelifted 2001 model as that had improvements to the car's suspension and handling. The 2001 1.9 TD unit also gained common rail direct injection resulting in 15bhp more the old unit, more refinement and better fuel economy.

    On a car of this age I would tend to judge reliability on the individual car rather than on the reputation of a brand.
