Hi guys and gals, I have a compaq laptop thats installed with windows 7. Recently I cant log into the main user account.I am at present using the guest account which limits me somewhat. When I click on" computer" and click on user and then the name is there but I cant access it. All it says when I click on the icon is "user profile service failed the login, user account cannot cant be loaded" the name of the account is there, but I can restore it.How can I do this?

    corrupt reg ?

    if so then

if you can logon in safe mode as administrator (pwd should be blank if you haven't set it) you may be able to do a system restore otherwise if you don't have a backup of the system you may have problems

Cheers.does win 7 have safe mode? I cant find it.Would system restore remove anything valuable? I did this before when I had win xp on another computer, but cant remember what it did or not exactly. It said on the manual about creating 3 backup dvds for the system, which I done maybe for the best:cool:

    P.S what is pwd?:(

    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-windows-vista/
try this and set up a new acc that has access all files or just use the admin acc (carefully)
sorry that dosent work just tryed it on mine through the guest acc.
you will need to google trinity rescue kit,get the instructions for winpass this will enable the super admin acc on your pc

Finally got the user account back.Only by recovering my computer following advise from HP themselves. One thing I found out when going into safe mode is its not quite the same as win xp. although this could well be to do with the make of laptop that I have too. With win xp you have to hold the f8 key while switching the computer on, but on mine that has win 7 now you tap that key instead.I done the same with the f11 key to go into the recovery manager.Maybe this might help someone else. Thanks for all the help. Now all I have to do is to find a way to transfer my ipod contents back to the library:(.

HP Recover manager means you have rolled back to the last backup, and unless you have used it before you are back to factory install.

Only good news is that if you chose the right option after pressing F11 you will have a backup of your files (if you didn't then game over, photorec + fingers crossed + goodbye to file names)

Well I even got me itunes library back too after getting some software to put back from the ipod to the itunes libary.Have a bit of sorting to do, but all is well.Didn't delete the ipod this time like the the last time it happened.HP are sending me some kind of recovery disc apparently free too.I hope this is not going to be a regular thing with this computer:(

Bloody hell! I thought this problem was fixed, but its not.I have the exact problem back again:mad:.I emailed HP again and they are basically saying to do the same again with the recovery discs that they sent me.I cant keep doing this every time.I might have to go back to the shop that I bought it from.Surely this is a fault with the machine:confused::confused::confused:

I've had the same problem on two computers - a main pc (a self-build) and a HP laptop, both running Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

The error message when you try to log in is something about the user profile not being found, correct?

I've gotten the computers into safe mode each time and rolled back to the previous restore point. I also created an admin a/c so that if it happened again, I could get in without having to re-boot in safe mode.

I haven't seen the problem now for about a month, but it drove me nuts for a week or so, constantly being locked out and having to restore.

Had the same problem running Windows 7 Professional, getting into safe mode and then restarting normally cures it temporarily.

Went into msconfig.exe and looked at startup items, disabled Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager (appeared after installing Adobe Reader 9) and Adobe Acrobat and haven't had the problem for well over a month. Problem only started after after install of Adobe Reader 9.
