Getting braces

I have an overbite which I really don't like - I try to avoid photos, smiling etc because I have always been very self aware of it.

When I was about 12/13 I asked my dentist for braces - it was declined by him as he said there would be minimal movement and it would not be worthwhile.

When I was in my early 20's I again asked a different dentist who referred me to a specialist and was again refused.

I'm now in my 30's and would like once and for all to get them fixed. Why is it that teeth straightening here (oh, btw I'm in NI) is seemingly random in its usage.

Is there anything I can do, or is it possible that no good will come of it? I've had wisdom teeth out and also a RC in front lower.

    Thanks in advance,

You might be a surgical case, who knows. Go see another orthodontist.

Does surgical dentistry involve implants and veneers?

No it involves facial bone surgery to change the shape of your jaws and their relative position. You would need a good assessment to know I am only plucking this off the top of my head.....

That sounds familiar to what the second orthadonist was talking about. He said the impact would be minimal. Sounds like it would cost a right few grand too :(

You have had 2 opninions at this stage and without seeing you it is not possible to give a third.

However it sounds like either the problem is so mild that it is not worth doing because it may relapse or return after treatment or it is a mild problem but fixing it requires extreme measures that are not warranted. You may just have to accept it but get another opinion if you are still interested
