If an employer doesn't get back to you about a job after saying they would?

I had an interview on Monday with an employer who had told me there currently were only full time positions available at the moment, and even though I'm seeking part time to come in anyway because they may be able to use me in the future. That is, they do employ people part time but were only looking for full time currently.

I was nervous during the interview but had thought it went well for the most part and believed that I had demonstrated my ability to do the job well. Towards the end choosing my words carefully I enquired as to the turn around time on part timers there, as in my previous place of work there was a high burnout rate. I made clear that the reason I was asking is that I am keen to start work and that I had been told there were no part time positions available. To this one of the interviewers replied that there may in fact be, and that they would have to speak to some people before calling me back on a specified evening during the week.

The phone call never took place and I'm wondering should I just continue to hope I will get a call or should I call back?

If a company hasnt the common curtsey to call you back when they say they will what do you think they would be like to actually work for
As it was only on friday leave it off until after the bank holiday if your desperate by all means ring them but it would ring major alarm bells in my head

If a week has already passed, there's no harm in calling - just be polite and don't appear to be complaining that you haven't had a call back ("I'm sure you're busy, sorry to bother you, just following up on my interview last week...").

I wouldn't worry too much though, generally time passes much more slowly for the person looking for the job than the person in the company. While you're agonizing over whether or not someone has called you, it's very easy for that person to forget until they come across it in their diary/inbox/etc. a week later.

I've found this to be true as well, and while it can be incredibly frustrating for the jobseeker its just the way it is.

If its just a few days, usually they will come back.

I've had situations where they called out of the blue several weeks later.

Generally I take it if somebody hasn't called then they are not interested in progressing further and don't lose too much sleep over it.
