Looking for accommodation

I never had to look for accommodation before and will be moving in a few weeks to start college. I would like to get a place sorted now so that will be one less thing to worry about. As i will be moving and its a 4 and half bus journey each way, i want to make the one trip and view as many places as possible. Would like to share in a house as it will be cheaper than renting a one bedroom flat on my own.

I have a few days off next week and hope to make a trip and view places. But from looking at places on websites, there aren't much available yet for the end of august. There are loads if i wanted to move now, so im guessing i might be able get a place more easily towards the end of the month, along with thousands of other students? I am getting really worried as the leaving cert results will be out in about two weeks and i want to get this sorted asap. I will have to keep an eye on websites over the coming week and ring the first add that comes up that matches my criteria.

The college is meant to send us info regarding accommodation but i haven't received anything yet. I might have to contact the college and see when they're sending us this info.

Not sure what else to do. Am i looking to early? Am i getting worried over nothing? What are peoples experiences of finding accommodation? Is it easy to get a place quick enough if i was to wait another 2/3 weeks?

Finding accommodation is a right pain TBH, I have done four years in College and each year I lived somewhere different.

I was lucky enough to have campus for my first year in college but a lot of my friends where not so lucky. Email/Ring the Residence Office and they will be able to help you out. They will normally have a list of houses available for the year.

Try daft.ie under shared and it will have a list of people looking to fill rooms but more often then not these will not be students so may not be your best bet.

Try and get in with other students as you will have more in common with them and will be more acceptable towards parties etc.

I would wait until the results come out and you are sure of which college you will be going to. No point taking a house near UCD if you end up in DCU.
I would browse the likes of daft and keep a short list of addresses/places you like the look of.
On campus living is very good for first year too so don'd rule that out.
    Good luck with it all.

Been there and felt the same way. In websites like Daft.ie you can search properties that will become available in late August or whenever you need it (Advanced search?). You can also try looking for room-mates on those websites or even posting something on campus.

On the bright side, I don't think it will be that difficult to find a place in the current climate. When I looked for one it was in the middle of the Celtic Tiger boom and each place I visited had a list of about 20 people also applying for the same place. I looked for about two months! It was ridiculous. Also, at that time everything was so expensive: a shared room in the city centre would have cost €400/month easily. I'm sure you'll find a better deal. Don't worry!
