Hi guys ... Was looking for a little help identifying a problem with my car ... I drive an 05 Citroen C4 and been getting a few problems lately ... Firstly, when you are moving off (in 1st gear or slowly in 2nd) and turning, the entire car rattles heavily ... It seems to come from the front of car maybe the wheels? Any idea what is causing this??

Also, lately the noise of the engine when driving is really loud. Going down m50 is like taking off at the airport ... Mate says that happened to him and was a hole in the exhaust ... Would that be right?

Anyone one any idea how much it would cost to fix these problems? ... I know nothing bout cars and don't wanna go straight to garage and ask them to find out.

    Any help greatly appreciated!

Could be a broken engine mount allowing the engine to shake about, which over time could have damaged the exhaust pipe resulting in the loudness. New mounting and exhaust section not a big job so not all that expensive as repairs go (a couple hundred €).

    or

if it's a diesel, the shaking may a failed dual-mass flywheel (circa €1000).

    Get it checked ASAP.

I too am guessing it could be worn engine mount(s). Does the car seem to be ticking over or roughly when idling? My vectra was and I was assuming it was egr valve, oxygen sensor, ignition coil, or something like that. A friend told me pop the bonnet and he pushed against the engine and low and behold the roughness stopped. Replaced two engine mounts and job sorted. Pull the bonnet when the car is ticking over and look to see if the engine is shaking about a lot, if so get a friend to push against the engine and see does the roughness stop. The engine mounts were pretty straightforward to replace in the Vectra but one bolt was a bit of a b!tch to get at alright if I remember correctly. Then again they may not be so easy in the Citroen.
