    Hi,

I just have couple of questions if anyone one know the answers. Are the Athletics clubs being funded by any group or do the clubs themselves have to raise money? Do coaches get paid or are they doing it for free? How many Outdoor & Indoor tartan tracks are there in the country?

    Thanks

To the best of my knowledge all Club Coaches coach on a voluntary basis and all clubs do their own fundraising. Possibly some of them receive funding from the National Lottery but if they do I couldn't tell you which clubs.
There are a plethera of outdoor tracks, I assume at least 1 to most counties but to the best of my knowledge there are only 3 indoor tracks: Nenagh in Tipperary, the Odyssey Arena in Belfast Northern Ireland and also a 300m indoor track in Magherafelt, also Northern Ireland.
From speaking to people at various track and field competitions there are plenty of (very good) juvenile athletes out there who are lucky to get to train on a proper track once a week-on a good week!

D'ya know what. . After watching the coverage of the european championships i was SO impressed with Derval O'Rourke's interviews with all of the TV journalists- wasn't she so articulate! She is very professional and very inspiring. . . . I loved her interview today on RTE Radio 1 - she was so naturally peeved at having to finish her studies and laughed at the thought of submitting her medal instead. . . .fair play to ya Derval. . You're a credit to Cork and to Ireland!
