Calibrating laptop battery

Hi I've a 2 year old Sony VAIO laptop. I was silly---used it while the battery and AC was plugged in constantly. Now the charge, when unplugged, lasts a maximum of 40 mins, as opposed to the alleged 3 hours. This is with minimum power consumption BTW. Is there a way of recalibrating the battery? If so, how? Thanks!

But to be honest batteries are of good tech these days. Its impactical to unplug during ac charge and the benefitts will only prolong life a few months. Also note that "alleged" battery life statements are never true and usual stated at min power consumption ie screen at min brightness, WLAN off etc.

After 2 years a new battery isnt alot to ask!
