    Hey!

I think the majority of people here are your age really. All the young fellas are off playing their 360s and ps3s while we're stuck back in the 80s/90s.

    26 myself. Don't feel a day over 17 :pac:

May have to provide slaps due to the raising of the age issue, I am 38 and, according to the better half, I have been too old for games since she met me, when I was 22.

So lets forget all about age, it's nice ot have been around to play these games the first time!

Im hurtling towards 29, so knowing someone here has about ten years on me has made my day :D

Edit - Welcome OP, it's one of the best forums on boards this one.

Wow, what on earth does retro mean to a 20 year old? I mean the Megadrive came out before you were born! A bit too freaky that!
But welcome to the retro forum, happy trails :)

Oh, and there's no such thing as "too old for playing games". Complete rubbish. Don't let your age tell you what to do - if you enjoy playing games, just do!

There's a few of my consoles that see little use I'm ashamed to say. Mostly because they're either broken or I have no/crap games for them. My master system, game gear and SNES (because it's broken) get very little use.

my master system is broke, the game gear is a console i never actually owned although i did play my mates one alot. also have a saturn somewhere which is hopefully broke! and i havent played my dreamcast or gamecube in years for obviuos reasons...

never liked the dreamcast, just didnt have enough good games for it.i even bought in some games from japan a few years back hoping it would make me play it more, it didnt though :( the cube was a bit better alright, but there arent many games on it that i would classify as retro classics unfortunately.

The Dreamcast has some fantastic games. I adore shooters and it really has a top notch selection in that genre. Almost rivals the Saturn in that regard. Although maybe I'm saying that as it's a lot easier to get your hands on dodgy Dreamcast games than Saturn ones :pac:

My own favourite console is the Megadrive. Been collecting for that since 1992. Never gave it up :)

    Hi,
    At 39 I am retro.
Started out on Zx Spectrum, mainly focused on PC gaming for years, only fairly recently (10 years ago) got into console gaming. I now have a healthy collection spanning several consoles, but have a soft spot for the Saturn. Being married with kids it's hard to find the time, so I tend to go for shorter games that I can actually finish (Although I love RPG's). When the time comes I want be buried with my Saturn, screw the kids they can have my Xbox.

Careful now, there are folk here that feel very strongly about the wonders of the Dreamcast, the console that just keeps giving, thanks to it's easily modded nature and the abundant access to NTSC titles via "backups".
A truely amazing console that never really got the western dev support it deserved.
Had EA, Codemasters and the rest rowed in, it would have been, perhaps, a very different story, Half Life on the DC is fantastic, better than the PS2 edition, and we can only wonder what the DC Colin McCrea 2 was going to be like, as it was cancelled near the time the console got into trouble.

But the fighting and shoot'em up genres are well represented on the machine, and if that's your bag there are fewer better, or cheaper, places to start.

Hmm.. I'm now the wrong side of 30 but have been playing games as long as I can remember. My interests lie mostly on the arcade side of things these days...

    Simple to sum up really...
Young LoGiE playing arcades - Older LoGiE discovers emulators - Older LoGiE purchases own arcades.

Older Ciderman just has to be satisfied with buying all the games and consoles that he always wanted as a younger Ciderman, in fact so young he was then perhaps "Cidonaman" owing to the fact that he didn't drink yet.
Now, instead of emulating Sonic, SFII or Metal Slug, I can excuse myself from the table, nip upstairs and in a few switch flips I am playing the originals....

    Which is nice...

It's all about making childhood dreams a reality.

I can remember wanting a Sega Mega CD for christmas when I was 9. Coincidentally, it was the same year I found out the truth about Santa.

I never did get that Mega CD. My parents were probably still paying off the Megadrive they'd bought me the previous year on higher purchase.

(For all those celtic tiger kids, higher purchase was for us folk who grew up in the previous recession. It was like getting a mortgage for electronic items you couldn't afford and paying them off over time)

I bought one a couple of years ago for less than 3 euro on ebay. My inner child rejoiced. Perhaps what they told me about santa all those years ago was in fact a lie. He just operates through ebay now.

My feelings exactly. I think I've become my own Santa, maybe I never really got over the whole sordid affair, but I just get my own presents now. I know what I want, make a list, and soon wonderful parcels start to arrive at my door. Well in my case they're chucked unceremoniously over my side gate, but it's the thought that counts.
