    Hi,
Im just looking for some advice. i have a 04 audi a4 1.9tdi 100bhp. another driver ran into me and and wrote it off. he admitted liability and all that, his insurance company are processin the claim now, im just waiting for them to get back to me.

What i'm wondering is what there going to offer me. they havent officially told me its a write off but i bought it for 9700 6 months ago and the cost of repairing in the audi garage is 8326 so id say its safe to say they'll write it off. people keep telling me i'll get book value but what is book value?? I no what similar cars on cbg and carzone cost but will they take into consideration that i had lower mileage than most of these cars and that i had a sunroof and nct to 2012 etc etc? is there a web site that will tell me book value? i googled it but got nowhere.

Also, do i have to accept what they offer or can i negotiate?

    all advice welcome,
    Cheers.

Book value is the average price of that model car of that year.
As far as I know they won't take in things like NCT, if its low mileage etc into consideration.
You dont have to accept the offer but you will want to have a case to argue to get what you paid for it.

I'd say they'll look up car zone etc and say their going for 7/8k or whatever.

If you bought from a dealer argue you don't get another one from a dealer with the money they're offering.

Not sure about a website for finding the book value, I think SIMI or some trade body provides that info to the insurance company.

They may give you the money you are looking for and hope you won't subsequently try and claim for injury.

Thats another thing i forgot to mention. i had my 4year old son wit me who was quiet upset at the time, neither of us were injured thank god and i have no intention of trying to screw the system but i no for a fact that alot of people would have jumped out of the car with a screaming child holding their neck crying injury! would they take that as a valid argument?

let me just emphasise that i dont want to make money on this and i'm willing to loose the full tank of diesel, the nct, and the tax. i just want a similar car the same spec, including mileage.

No. Insurance companies know who's crying wolf.

Would you consider taking book value less salvage value thus allowing you to keep the car. This should be allowed as long as there is not serious structural damage. That way, you could fix the car & keep it. There is no doubt that the car can be fixed perfectly for much less than the Audi quote as this will include crazy prices for all new genuine audi parts & labour & also will include full replacement for parts than anyone being reasonable would keep on the car as they may only have a tiny mark etc.
That way, depending on whether insurer will issue cheque directly to you & not the garage, you could have your own car back & have a few quid to compensate for the devaluation of the car due to accident.

yeah, have thought of that but if possible id rather avoid all that hassle of going around the breakers looking for parts if i can argue a reasonable deal out of them. after all i didnt do anything wrong, i shouldnt have to go to that trouble.

You can always negotiate with the insurance compnay. The price they offer should allow you to buy a similar car taking account of lower mileage etc.

    OP.

    Several issues here.

First, your car has not been "written off" yet.

Let the regular procedure take its place, ie you get an estimate, they send an assessor to dispute your estimate etc.

The net result will be a payout for write off or an agreement to fund repairs.

When this has been proposed THEN you can consider your options,

As for your son... I can't advise.

Nobody said go to the breakers for parts! You should be able to get it repaired privately with all new parts for a fair bit less than the insurance quote.

I get calls every week from insurance companies about car prices, the way they value your car is on how much they can buy the same car with the same spec for. Example, yours is a 04 A4tdi 100BHP with say 60,000 miles, they will look on carzone ect and search for this car, ring dealers who have them in stock, they explain who they are and that they have a customer in need of a replacment car and try negotiate the best price they can over the phone. they then take the average of the prices they have been givin and this is what they offer you.

If they do decide your car is a write off I would advise you to do the same as them and start looking for a replacement and explain your situiation to the dealers, most will be happy to help you and give you written quotes for your chosen car so if you are not happy with the offer from the insurance company you can show them the quotes you have been givin and try negotiate a better settelment.
