Driving Test... Ireland or the States?

Bascially Im going off to Miami next year where public transport is terrible. I failed my test today and Im off to the sunshine state in two weeks.

So I have the double whammy of having my license expires on the seventh of August combined with the fact there is a three week wait before they can take me again.

So Im wondering would I be better or hoping to get a cancellation here and using the license over there or else just taking the driving test in Miami?

Any advice would be much appreciated!!!

Might aswell do it in Miami seeing as you'll be there, and assumingly looking for insurance.

Look up the state laws for Florida as when i lived over there i had to have my learners permit (Kansas issued) for a year before i could do the test. You should need a social security number and have to pass their equivalent of a theory test. It was called a safety something or other in Kansas. The Irish learners permit won't count for anything over there as far as i know. So you'll be a brand new driver in their eyes. Might be worth getting lessons over there because the change of the other side of the road and some of their laws take a bit of getting used to. Always takes me a while to get used to driving on the right whenever i go back over.

Its takes about 5 minutes to get used to it.
Its the gear stick on the wrong hand that takes a while to get used to :)

Theres very few manual transmission cars (imo) in the US, they dont like to "drive a stick" over there. Autoboxes all the way!

You have to prove valid immigration status to take the test in Florida (details)
