Can't comment on the products, but Thomann.de is generally the best site to get gear from. They've free delivery over €200, and are usually about the cheapest, and have great service etc.

I have that mp3 e2. Handy little piece of equipment. You do need to get a soundcard aswell though. Was actually thinking of selling mine, just can't get into digital. Prefer the touch of decks any day of the week. Probably more suitable for adverts, but I'd sell you the mixer and http://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_ucontrol_uca_202.htm soundcard for €100 if you'd be interested. Both boxed and pretty much brand new with instructions and virtual DJ aswell to start you off.

There used to be a Hercules controller with a built in soundcard.

As little as possible being honest! I'm only going for this type of equipment as its cheap and if i cant get into it then i could sell on or even if i couldnt sell then it wasnt that much of wasted money.
You do need to get a soundcard aswell though.
Why the need of a soundcard? :o Don't know much about them tbh

Everything in the box as if buying from the website new? How old are they? Where do you live?

Didn't know myself until a lad here said it and recommended the soundcard. Theres no built in soundcard thats why an external one is needed.

Yup everything boxed and ready to go. I've only used it about 3 times. Either Sligo or Galway.

In the cheapy Cheapy area the Hercules DJ console MK4 is the one to get IMHO .. at least you don't need to go Poking around looking for separate sound cards.

The Mp3 does NOT have a headphone socket, it only controls the knobs and faders on the screen not the sound coming out.

    http://www.thomann.de/ie/hercules_dj_console_mk4.htm

    Other Options:

    http://www.thomann.de/ie/behringer_bcd2000.htm - 99 euro's !

Gods the price of controllers has dropped so so much !

http://www.thomann.de/ie/behringer_bcd3000.htm - if you are on a mac

Not often you'd see me saying Behringer, but at 99 euro's that seems a steal for something with a built in soundcard and years warranty its a good bit more substantial in size to the herc?

If you think intend sticking with it though the Hercules RMX is the dogs nuts for under 300 and built like a friggin tank!, I've had mine over 1.5 years its travelled over 30k miles on various flights being manhandled by airport security.. and hasn't let me down yet.

I wouldn't recommend the BCD2000, it's not worth the few quid savings. It will cost you more in the long run, you could try the newer BCD3000, it has many fixes compared to the 2000 but yep, costs a bit more.

I'm more or less in the same boat guys, have been messing around with Virtual DJ for the past few months and have done a few parties using friends gear etc, thinking about buying some gear for myself. Anyone know how much this would roughly cost if I were to get everything you would need (all I have is a laptop), like the OP I would be just hoping to spend as little as possible.

If you really want to get into mixing, spend a little extra on something like the Hercules DJ Console RMX or the Numark Omni Control, they'll set you back about €275 and are both solid pieces of equipment.

Dont touch the RMX, had it for a year and bought an Omni Control instead. The soundcard in the RMX is useless!

Cant recommend the Omni Control enough...great piece of kit and practically indestructible!

Would love to compare the sound from the DJ IO and the Omni. I kinda wish I'd gone with the Omni now.

Define useless ? I had thought the same originally, but turned out it was Traktor's Autogain causing distortion issues, the RMX has a HUGE output both the main outs and headphones and if you don't keep the gains down it clips the master @ about 60% & latency is at 5ms on my Macbook Pro .. the RMX feels like a better built piece of kit IMHO.

from what the OP has been saying TBH though I'd imagine the Behinger BCD3000/2000 are the ones most likely in his price range.

@ Lethal bullet .. i'd think they are probably the same soundcard internals to keep production cost low ?

I mean useless as in actual quality wise, Ive tried the RMX with Traktor, Cue and Deckadence on home systems, Void systems and Funktion One systems and its been bad quality every time. I only really noticed it when I started playing after people using CD-J's or vinyl.

Switched to the Omni Control about a year ago and I couldn't be happier. Well better piece of kit imo!

    INPUTS
    Mic: 1/4" TS

    OUTPUTS
    Master: RCA stereo pair
    Cue: RCA stereo pair
    +2dBU
    Headphones: 1/4" TRS
    Signal-to-Noise Ratio: > 97dB (max output; JIS-A Weighted)
    Frequency Response: ±1dB (20Hz – 20kHz)
    24-bit DAC’s
    Output Level: +2.0dBV +/-0.5dB
    SNR: > 100dB (A-weighted)
    THD+N: 0.008%

Those are the specs, not in the same format, but the SNR is different.

Okay guys, would anyone know what to make of the Hercules DJ Control MP3 e2? Seems cheap enough, and as I said I'm only really testing the water with this, anyone know if it has a soundcard and compatable with headphones?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,213 ✭✭✭was.deevey

It has no Soundcard or headphone output .. which is why everyone is pointing you in other directions...

It only controls what is on the screen.

    Either:

    a) Buy a 4 output soundcard .. less headaches...
    b) Buy a 2 output soundcard.. learn to config ASIO 4 All (it'll save you $)
    c) Buy something with a built in card for an extra 70 odd Euro..
    d) Buy a soundcard only and use a mouse.

Should mention here if you are using a desktop with a 5.1 soundcard you wont need to buy a soundcard as you'll already have enough outputs.

There's a guy selling a Behringer BCD3000 fairly cheap on adverts which has a built in card, might be worth a look.. or they are 166 euro new on thomann.

Would you recommend the Behringer BCD3000? Does it have an internal soundcard and headphones input?
Would it be worth throwing the extra few quid for that instead of getting the Hercules?

IMHO yes, anything with an internal soundcard would be a better bet for someone starting off if you are not comfortable with the configuration of an external one.

The fact your asking the question leads me to believe you'd be happier with it in the short term.

Both the hercules or behringer are bargain basement consoles which you'll probably grow out of pretty fast.
