I just bought this frame from ChainReaction. It came without a gear hanger and is therefor completely useless as I've no idea where I'd get a hanger to fit it:(.

Are frames normally supplied with a gear hanger?

I would just call them and have them send you one - it's an integral part of the bike, no excuse for it not being there.

Thanks. Got onto them eventually and they've promised to post me out a gear hanger:).

A few more things they don't mention on the website:
Frame size 48cm takes smaller wheels (650c, I guess).
It doesn't take standard 49mm brakes, need 57mm.

one needs to know the limitations of buying online, for reasons like this, chances are people who usually buy that sort of stuff chances are they know about those limitations, the online shops are really for knowing what your looking for and that. Think of how buying it in a bikeshop would have gone:

    "we have these ones... "
" ok, so do they come with XXXX??
"no, but we have them/you can get them here/there"

thats what shops are for :)
internet shops are like wholesalers, your supposed to know what your getting, and untill you know what your at should stick to shops for the mo. serve the apprenticeship if you like ;)

Needing long-reach brakes is strange. Incredibly cheap frame though.

Boards.ie is sufficient backup. There is no problem we cannot solve, or make worse.

It will (supposedly) take a 32c with mudguards, so I suppose a 35c without, which makes it pretty obvious really that it needs the 57mm drop, so I shouldn't have been surprised!

I'll put it up on "images of beauty" in a week or so after I've had a chance to build it and try it out.

What a coincidence, the guys name that owned Phoenix Cycles was Paul Kiernan and the next poster also had the same name!!!

A Hybrid frame would require a longer reach brake then a standard road bike due to the extra clearance required for bigger tyres. I think most hybrids nowadays come with either cantilever or disc mounts though.
