E39 528i Air Filter

Doing an Oil Inspection on one of these over the weeked - Oil & Filter, Fuel Filter & Air Filter change.

Anyone happen to know if the 528i has 2 Air Filters or just the one?

It should be just the one, on the passenger side (if I remember correctly) It has 2 pollen (or micro) filters though.

I think the only e39 with 2 air filters is the M5.

It will have two, one each on each side, regardless of climate control options. unclip, reveal, replace.

Be VERY careful with the oil you use.

0-30 seems to be the best.

Oils claiming to meet X standard are two a penny. Oils that have been "CERTIFIED" to have met that standard are different.

ie. I can supply you with the effluent from my house, I can claim said crap meets the relevant standard etc.

Guys, buy good oil.

E39 528 is a straight 6 - has one air filter in the front right of the engine (passenger side). The pollen filters are the two at the back near the firewall.

V8s might have 2

Sorry for the confusion, I was thinking about pollen filters.

yeah it has 2 pollen filters - at the back beside the firewall
