Reporting an illegally parked car

    Hi,

Posting here because, well, I figured the people in the motoring forum can help!

There's somebody who consistently parks blocking our driveway. At least once a week, he plonks his beemer in front of our house, and goes off to talk on his mobile phone.*

I'm guessing this isn't permitted, but I'm wondering where I should go to report it - the county council or the Gardaí? And how soon do they usually act to either tow or clamp.

I'm just after returning to the house to find him blocking the way into the house and left quite a terse note. If it happens again, I'd like to sort out the issue once and for all.

*As far as we can divine, he's involved in the business next door.

Why dont you just go up to him and ask him not to do it again. Asking nicely is always my first port of call ;)

The Gardai are who to report it to. Depends what humour they are in, but if it was blocking a Guard's house it wouldn't last jig time :D

Agree 100% - the bloke probably does'nt even realise he's discomoding you. He's just busy etc.
A friendly request to him in person would be best - why be all Terse?
It's no wonder people don't bid other people the time of day anymore.

Because it happens all the frigging time. I didn't go up to him on this occasion because he was nowhere to be seen.

Actually, just 2 minutes after the OP, yer man rang the door bell, apologised and moved his car. :)

If he's ignorant enough in the first place to block someones driveway asking him nicely is hardly going to have an effect. It's not like you can miss seeing that you are blocking a driveway

thats good, but it shows that you would have gotten the same result without the terse'ness:)

I hate the way the word ignorant is alway used in the wrong context.;)
See the post above, approaching the motorist in question did have an effect, albeit in a terse way.:o

Overall, most of these things can be sorted nicely - if people interact.

Well anyway, in my experience, you need to act worried about the car to get anywhere with the gardai.

We had the same situation a couple of years back, and our reporting fell on deaf ears until we called up describing the car as 'suspicious'
