You are searching for your ball in not too long rough and you walk on a ball which is identified as yours.

    Any penalty.?

    Any special procedure.?

    No penalty.

    Play it as it lies.

i would say its a penalty of one stroke and you replace the ball to where it lay ( unless you were in a hazard ) but i stand to be corrected.

If you or anyone else accidentally stands on your ball in the process of looking for it there is no penalty and you are allowed drop the ball.

    Wrong Im afraid guys.
If anyone "related" to you moves it during a search then its a penalty unless you are in a hazard or abnormal ground conditions.

    18-2
    a. General
When a player’s ball is in play, if:
    (i) the player, his partner or either of their caddies lifts or moves it, touches it purposely (except with a club in the act of addressing it) or causes it to move except as permitted by a Rule, or
(ii) equipment of the player or his partner causes the ball to move,
the player incurs a penalty of one stroke. If the ball is moved, it must be replaced, unless the movement of the ball occurs after the player has begun the stroke or the backward movement of the club for the stroke and the stroke is made.
Under the Rules there is no penalty if a player accidentally causes his ball to move in the following circumstances:
In searching for a ball in a hazard covered by loose impediments or sand, for a ball in an obstruction or abnormal ground condition or for a ball believed to be in water in a water hazard – Rule 12-1
    • In repairing a hole plug or ball mark – Rule 16-1c
    • In measuring – Rule 18-6

    Hmmm... purposely is mentioned.

In searching for the ball if the player walks on it accidentally ie can't see it ,just walks on it.

    Does that change things/

The rule you quote does not apply. If the ball is moved by an opponent, equipment, caddie etc during a search, there is no penalty, just replace the ball. That applies if the opponent is your cousin, uncle or any other relation!

Think i have it sorted now. During the search.

I stood on the ball and moved it,it was my ball , it was in play -one stroke pen.

If during the search someone else did the same no penalty.

    think that's it.

Reread the rule. It exactly applies!
"When a player’s ball is in play, if:
    (i) the player"

The rule about someone "not related" to you (i.e not your caddy, equipment, manager etc) is a separate rule.

Correct, and you must replace it or the penalties snowball!

You claim "If anyone "related" to you moves it during a search then its a penalty unless you are in a hazard or abnormal ground conditions." What do you define as related to you?

Didnt I just give an example of that (if it wasnt already obvious)?

I think most people figured out that you didnt need to start checking birth and marriage certs

It's not very clear to be honest. If my caddie moves my ball during a search, are you claiming I must take a penalty? Is that what you are saying?

Yes -penalty if you or your caddy moves the ball even "accidentally" while searching

OP didn't say the ball moved, just that he walked on it, so if it didn't move, maybe oscilated, whats the story then, I presume, you just play away.

Nope, if you touch it then its a penalty in this case.
The only time you can "get away" with touching it without it moving is during your address.

Correct. Your caddy, your equipment, his equipment etc are all treated as if you did it. Same goes in a team event, your partner = you (and his caddy, equipment, etc)
