Lee will never be an inside fighter. How is a guy with a reach of 77 inches going to be an inside fighter?
Tommy hearns couldnt fight on the inside to save his life and anytime he tried he got koed ala hagler vs hearns. He had to use his boxing skills like the jab and foot and bodymovent to get himsef out of trouble and his lack of inside ability didnt stop him winning world titles.
Now lee is no tommy hearns and never will be but my point is guys with long reaches are always going to be useless on the inside.

Lees problem is his stamina nobody gets on the inside against lee until he gets tired.
He works on his strength and conditioning and his future opponents will find lee a nightmare to get close to.

Obviously he will never be an inside fighter, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't work on it, seeing as it is a weakness. There's always going to be somebody who will get inside.

I'd doubt it cos the fight wasn't televised

looked like a solid performance from andy but hard to know when its against a journeyman like that - hope he fights someone decent soon

I doubt very much if lee is going anywhere regarding titles, irish maybe if he can beat Duddy

Dont be surprised if Andy lee is after lorenzo to fight sturm. As long as lee doesnt fight anyone good and ko them badly then sturm will give him a shot, thats sturm style.
Lee is ranked 10th by the WBA and is the only one who hasnt had a title shot in the top ten list and is ready and willing for a shot.
Early next year lee will be in a world title fight and he will still be only 26.

He needs to fight somebody decent instead of wasters like this guy. He is losing support in Limerick amongst the boxing public because of his (Or his management's) choice of opponents.

ah it's the management, it has to be...

andy always struck me as the type of fella who just wants to fight, dooesn't matter who, so it's the age old hob of building a good record before the title shots come along but the level of opponents would ant to get a lot better a lot faster if he's to have a shot early next year...

compare him to lemieux 22/23 kos only 21 years old, no good reason he shouldn't have come further than he has, hopefully he gets someone good soon

Another non fight for Andy Lee.

Walker is marginally better than the rest of the muck he has faced recently but there will be no TV coverage.

At least he's been kept busy. It might help improve his stamina. He must be training non stop to keep weight. It's better than him staying idle for months on end. Hopefully he starts to make a step up soon though.

I remember hearing a boxing radio show were Andy said he walks around at 167-169lbs so middle weight really is his natural fighting weight.
I seen andy up close and he actually a very slim man. The likes of pavlik and felix sturm walk around at 190lbs so they struggle big time but make it for years. Both pavlik and sturm are much bigger men than Andy not height wise as that doesnt count but in muscle mass.
Andy would have to work very hard to gain muscle like those guys and move up in weight.

    Lee TKO 9! :D

Boxrec has him to fight again in 2 weeks, hope that materialises, I want him to keep active.

Andy Lee slated to meet Troy Lowry and meeting Ali at reopening of the 5th Street Gym

Where do Lee's management find these bums?

I understand the importance of keeping active but that means much less when he is fighting a 40 year old who has been stopped 6 times and has lost his last 4 fights.

Beating a top 10 guy > beating ten bums.

They should feed Lee to Chvez Jnr and get it over with... :(

Doubt you will get a stream tbh. He isn't fighting on a bigger promoter's show. It probably wont be televised. Google the promoter; Billy Reese and see if has a stream for the fight.

Definitely. But a few wins is no harm either. Build him up a bit, confidence wise.

Andy Lee smashes Troy Lowry to make John Duddy clash possible

Would love to see this fight! Lee by UD

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭Benny Lava

Duddy should take the fight with Lee because he has less to lose now than he did at the other times that the promoters tried to make the fight. He is not undefeated, won't be getting a world title shot anytime soon and was shown to be a few steps off Chavez' level (which is a level below world class in itself) in his last fight.

Might as well be part of a big all-Irish fight.

"Lee has been cutting his way through more American tomato-cans than Pizza Hut since beating Affif Belghecham at the UL Arena"

    :D

i'd prefer to see duddy foreman and lee v williams/martinez first. no rush for lee and duddy to fight. got to take the big international fights like that while ya can.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,594 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

I'd prefer to see Lee V Duddy after both fighters had their opportunities at the big time, but failed, as a result facing each other was then the only option left to either of them. A fight between the two of them in such circumstances would still be of interest to a lot of Irish people

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 585 ✭✭✭Rob113

I don't see the benefit in either of them fighting each other at this stage. Neither of them have anything to gain other than bragging rights, but both have everything to lose.
In saying that I'd still see Duddy take it. I don't think Lee would withstand the onslaught of duddys gung ho approach.
Look at it this way I'd be more impressed if Lee could beat duddy than I would be if duddy beat Lee

Exactly, I'd say Duddy would be too strong for him and would stop him.

I think Lee would outbox him

I do too. Think Duddy is all guts but limited & Lee would take him on points but it would be a difficult fight.

I just checked johns record and the man has never fought a southpaw since Dupre strickland, so if he has trouble dodging punches from an orthodox stance hows he going to avoid a southpaws blows? The answer is he isnt.

We all love John for what he is but the man takes everything on chin and thats the very reason he never made it to the top but he still gathered many fans in the process because of all the bloody exciting battles.

Now if you followed johns career as close as i did you will notice he very average power and still slaps with the inside of the glove and very rarely hits with the knuckle part.

John doesnt have the tools to get the win here and i say his team know it.

Lee has flaws for sure but his strengths ie power, accuracy ,footwork will get him through this one (if it gets made).
Emmauel steward is a clever man he knows lee will stop him and outshine Julio cesar chavez jr in the process.

Johns only chance is to get lee into a brawl and wear him out, but when is the last time you seen lee in a brawl? thats right VERA two years ago.
I just cant see him being so stupid this time.

Lee TKO round 8 for me.
