    Hi lads,
I was looking into changing the golf for an A4 over the past few months but have had no luck so far finding the right one. (year, price, engine size etc)

I was at the traffic lights today and an A4 and a mazda 6 sport were beside each other and i thought that the mazda was a decent looking car. Both of them were 07 models.

What peoples opinions on the mazda 6 compared to the A4?

Also im currently driving a 1.4 petrol and im commuting approx 200 miles week. If i went to a 1.8 petrol would the running costs be much more? Ideally i was hoping to switch to a desiel but they are few and far between from what ive seen.

    thanks

I had a 1.8 '04 Mazda 6. I found it heavy on the fuel to be honest, I was averaging 26/27 mpg (although it was mainly city driving). On longer trips the best I could get was mid to high 30's. Its a rock solid car, the engine is bulletproof and pulls well. Interior is solidly put together, although a bit bland.

I liked it, but I've gone to a 1.4 C4 now which gives high 30's to mid 40's mpg.

2.0 litre diesel Mazda 6 should be avoided. Do a search on this forum, there is plenty of topic on this subject.

Mazda is leagues ahead of the A4. Bigger, better value, far better handling, nicer to drive.

Test drove a few of these recently, nice car to drive.

One thing to note is that there was a mild facelift in mid 2005. Changes are not all that dramatic but the inside of the car is nicer looking and the centre console looks much better. They used a darker plastic here and it looks much better than the pre-facelift models.

Outside, there were a few minor changes but nothing really noticeable. One thing I did notice was there was less road noise off the new facelifted model as they have put in more insulation against road noise on this model.

If I had the choice (and the money), I would go for the facelifted model over the pre 2005 model. Just beware also that the changes came in mid 2005 and so many of the 2005 cars are the older model (although there are some of the facelifted model available)

Check out the difference in the inside of the car in the two below. May not matter to some people but I think the newer one looks much classier.

Facelift model (nicer alloys available on facelifted models also)
