We did our album launch in The Village, the engineers there were really good, everyone went out of their way to make sure it ran really smoothly and to make sure we were happy. Great sound, great lighting...
    Definitely recommend it.

    Good luck with the launch!

get a lot of people there......:pac:

but seriously, make sure the set up of everything is grand, if there's any support/opening band's to sort out times/approx changeover lengths (add an extra bit of time if possible to what you'd expect..for things running late), promoting the gig, etc. make sure everythings organsised :)

hope it goes well for ya anyway! :)

I'd go for the Button Factory, and when it comes to making it a success just work your asses off on getting people there, don't charge an arm and a leg in, get the place packed, if that means free in and losing money go with it.
A crowded venue for an album launch is quite an important thing, if people have a great time there you'll gain some credibility whereas if there is hardly anybody there it'll be the opposite.

    A good support act too.

Have fun with it though, the night shouldn't be just about promo for you guys, have fun with it and use the night to celebrate the work thats gone into your album and the time spent getting it out there.

Keep us updated on when and where!!!

Little things to make it a success,

*Research the release date as not to coincide with another big event be it concert, late match in the premiership being a top fixture, bank holiday weekend etc.

*Advertise well in advance and keep small reminders leading up to that date, end of the month is always good time as people get paid.

*try have a support act that have a crowd they can bring and maybe offer their fans a reduced rate as they are not there to see you and might bring in extra bodies.

*dont pick a venue that is too big for your fanbase, a packed smaller venue will have people talking afterwards more than a half full bigger venue. Easy to find the capacities on their websites.

*Get the album to all the reviewers and radio stations approx a month if not more in advance of the release date and obviously offer them free passes to the launch.

Best of Luck with it too!!

Main tip would be don't get a venue that you wont fill - nothing worse than a half empty venue. Button Factory is a BIG ask to get full and very expensive to rent out. Have played there to a full crowd and it is an amazing experience but if your not going to get it full its just going to be a let down.

    Couple things that helped us:
Support band - same genre so crowd weren't put off, brought a couple of fans of their own which helped our numbers. All details about gear, set length etc... all sorted out well in advance.

Venue - have it booked well in advance and promote like crazy. Confirm bookings, price, ticketsales etc... well before the date

Tickets- sell on ticketmaster, tickets.ie etc... try and have as many presales as possible.

Engineers - be nice to the engineers wherever you go! They can make your night incredible or a disaster!

Album - we didn't sell the album we gave it free with launch ticket to maximise exposure. People have varying opinions on this I believe it was the right choice.

Promotion - try get reviewed in hotpress, maybe do a competition on phantom to win free tickets etc...

Best of luck with it, hopefully it will be the night of your life!

Just to add a little to all of the great advise given so far....

From my experience, some venues are simply better suited to certain genres of music than others due to PA system, room characteristics, pre-conceived notions etc etc.....

Contact the venue and ask them who has played there recently if you dont know or if they dont have it listed on their website. Try to see if a band that play a similar genre played there recently and see what the response was like by either looking for reviews of their show or by asking them directly via Myspace / Facebook or whatever.

If theres one thing musician like to talk about its our own musical experiences so chances are that you are likely to get some decent feedback.....

It may seem like a bit of effort, but if you are really serious about your album launch, then best to check all of the boxes! :)
