Hi guys, Just looking for some advice on car-vans. At the moment I'm driving a berlingo and I hate it, what a ball of crap!
The choices are focus, golf, almera, c4, 306, can't really think of anymore! Of all these my choice would be the focus followed by the golf but I've heard ford fiesel engines are crap!!

Budget is max 3k so I'm looking around the 01-02 bracket

Any advice and other ideas would be great!

    Toyota Corolla D4D!

    great van and bulletproof

although the 2.2 almera is a very quick van

Almera 2.2 is an awful boring heap.

What about this, noone would suspect it was a van

That ones a fair strech more than the OP's 3k budget though! I'd recommend a Corolla van also with the 2.0d or d4d engine. 1.9 Peugeot engined versions are not as desireable. Avoid the Renault Megavan like the plague. Horrible tinny heap of French junk that would probably end up breaking you.

C4 only came out in 04 i think may be in your price range now anyway coz its a citreon (I drive 1 grand van)

The c4 current focus and 307 vans are all the same with the 1.6 diesel engine. Id go for the golf with the 1.9 tdi probably more comfortable at doing motorway speeds.

Any of these will probably have been first a rep car and then owned by a young male driver (like myself) so make sure they have been looked after properly

If you need the space of the berlingo try the vw caddy. Friend has one, nice van find it fairly comfortable too

There a good van but I couldn't justify the extra premium people pay for them just because there a Toyota. We've had most of the various car vans throught the years. Megane, astra, corolla, focus, 306. People will laugh but the megane was by far the best one. But then in general there not suppose to be that reliable even though we had no problems with ours. If I had to pick the best all rounder it would probably be an astra 1.7. Extremely reliable reasonable amount of power and can be bought reasonably cheap nowadays.

+1 on the 1.7 astra. Drove the new model 3 door, gtc or whatever they call it. Good yolk :). They older estate one wasn't bad either.

I'd doubt you will buy a straight Corolla 1.4 D-4D van for €3k. On that budget I'd be looking at one of the last MkI Focus vans. They were sold up to late 2005. The old 1.8 TDDi engine is a good solid engine bar maybe DMF problems which most modern diesels seem to suffer from eventually anyway.
