It all depends on how good a job you want, but the short answer is that it's not worth it. You might pay €2500 for a good (but not perfect) job, and the car will still be worth less than an equivalent one in its original colour. And yes, you'll have to register a colour change.

More than the car is worth, that's for sure. You'll get the price down if you do most of the prepwork yourself, but it's still going to be expensive.

I've had quotes from 2.5 to 4k+ for a full respray on a small hatchback.

Thanks for the replys ... The car only cost 1000 euro 1991 would it really be that much to respray a small car ? i`m amazed .... Surley I could touch up the marks myself but the job would be very noticable ?

Re-sprays seem to have cost around that amount forever, and to me it's surprising that it is an economical pricing level - being so steep I would have thought would have put a lot of people off. And to a clueless amateur (like me) it's strange that once you have the machinery and paint there's still c.€2k+ of work involved (and that seems to be a standard ballpark charge). But as I say, I don't know for sure and maybe it's a lot more complicated and time-consuming than I'm allowing for.

Are the marks that bad? Maybe post up a few pics and people (paintdoctor etc) can advise on diy. I'd just give it a good polish and wax and go out an enjoy the nice weather;)

You could tip up the scratches yourself, then get someone to machine polish the whole car for you.
