USD exchange rate

May as well keep an eye on this for those who are headed over.

Today, July 29th, is a 3 month high for the Euro against US Dollar at 1.3

It hasd gone as low as 1.195 about 6 weeks ago. Those of you who are going could do worse than maybe do some exchange now, as there is no saying what way the dollar will go. It could go well up - it hit an all time high of €1-$1.499 in October 2009. It will never go this high again, but could easily hit 1.35 or even 1.40.

Worth keeping an eye on anyway.

Good idea Gimmick. Still have $300 left over from Phoenix. Might add to that soon. :)

Theres a Excell spreadsheet on here guys that may prove pretty usefull for exchange rates, both current and historical.

I'd recommend this site for anyone in N.Ireland or the UK...

    www.crowncurrencyexchange.com

If you call them at the minute about cancelled contracts, you can get $1.60 for £1 stg.

I opened a sterling bank account and buy the dollars that way. The money always arrive on the date agreed by special delivery.

Creeping up nice and slowly. It is at 1.3271 today. Highest since mid March.

Unless XE is lying to me the $ has gone down 5c since. :(
XE is a good site to keep an eye on the fluctuating rates.

Ya, its down at approx 1.28 today. It will most likely fluctuate between 1.25 and 1.33 for the next few months anyway. Might not sound like much, but if you are exchanging €1000, its make a nice little wedge.

Does indeed. I still have $300 left from Phoenix. Spent $300 ish on my first day at Axxess & that was the end of my splurging. Might invest €500 into $ after I book my flights if the going is still good.

Would you think $400 plus about $200 (in case of) funds would be enough for the four days? I only generally buy a couple of shirts and things and may get a couple more things but i'm worried it may not be enough. I thought it should be though.

That should be more than enough. I have $300 left over from this year & don't feel the need to add much to that, as for t shirts etc, I spent $300 at my first day at Axxess this year. I have a problem. I'll order stuff online I want straight away, & buy the rest on sale after the event. My luggage was a pain fitting all that stuff in.

Its very healthy at the moment at about $1.36.

It has been steadily climbing, but with all the shenanigans with our economy, the value may fall significantly again soon much like it did around the time of the Greece bail out.

Looking good today - it hit the $1.40!

Down to about $1.36 today. Should have both some at $1.40. :(
Anyone bought any yet or still holding out?

  • Subscribers Posts: 2,163 ✭✭✭Brolly

Hold out for a few weeks Kane...it will hit the $1.40 mark again before Xmas (99% sure of this!).

I wasn't too pushed with the rate before, but since I'm there for 8 nights, I'll need more than the $300 I have left over.
    Quite a bit more.

About 1.34 today. I doubt it is going to get much better at this stage.

Where do people get these prices today, because i was out and about today buying dollars today, the best rate in any bank was AIB @ 1.3006 and in the po office comission free was 1.297 worked out cheaper to buy in the post office..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 84 ✭✭ClassicsGuy

Currently you can get $1 for every 62p.

This is the best exchange rate in many months. Might not last for long!

If you're headed to 'Mania, might be worth getting some dollars now, rather than wait until late March.:)

Getting me some dollars for the trip this week, thinking I'll bring $800-$1000, already have $300, so $500+ don't seem to bad to get.

The post office is commission free? Nice. :)

Bought $350 today, got just over $600 now, won't need much more.

  • Subscribers Posts: 2,163 ✭✭✭Brolly

For those who are planning on using their credit cards over there, I got $1.37 today on a USD purchase. Obviously, that could change a lot in the next month, but if the FX rates remain around the same, its a very good rate!

Bought more $ in the last few days, not bringing quite $1000, but more than enough to get me by. :)
