Old clock - Where should we get it valued?

    Hi,
We have an old clock here that was given to us as a gift and we would like to get it valued. It's quite heavy and looks really nice aswell - we assume that it has some value because of the weight.

We were going to just bring it into an antique shop to get it valued - Is that the usual thing to do? If anybody knows anything about clocks here I can post up some details or photos if you'd like.

Hope this post is in the right place! Thanks.

Whereabouts are you and I might be able to point you in the right direction? :)

    Thank you.

    Hi,

Just been reviewing my listings for Galway from last year - major changes - several dealers that I would have recommended have moved and several others have shut up shop.

http://www.honansantiques.ie/index.html in Gort are worth checking out and they sell clocks.

    Lynch Antiques,
    Foster Place, Tuam, Co. Galway
    Tel: (093) 25744

    Sell clocks and offer valuations.

    Tempo Antiques
    9 Cross Street, Galway, Ireland
    Phone: +353-(0)91-562282
    Email: info@tempoantiques.com

Don't know if they do valuations but you could give them a ring.

    Clifden Antiques & Irish Art

    Station House, Clifden, Co. Galway
    Tel: (095) 22230
    Open: Mon/Sat. 10am-6pm.

Walsh & Hill Antique & Fine Art Auctioneers & Valuers
    The Ranch, Kilcolgan, Co.Galway
    Tel: (091) 776323
    Email: info@galwayauctionrooms.com
    Website: www.galwayauctionrooms.com

Hope these are of some use - be sure to ring ahead before travelling as the Antiques trade is in the horrors and businesses seem to be disappearing overnight. :)

    Hi Emacken,
Post a photo here before you do anything .

If you walk into a dealer without a basic idea of your clock , then he/she will rinse you out .

    Be careful !

I wasn't suggesting that - the OP seemed to want a valuation rather than to sell the clock.

Ya I was actually afraid of getting fleeced so that's why I asked the question here! I only knew one place in Galway and was afraid of that. Now with multiple places there I can get a few quotes.

I'll take a picture of it though and post it up here tomorrow if possible as it will probably be next week before I can have the clock with me to price it.

    Apologies J-Day , I didn't mean to discredit your post .
You give sound advice and put a lot of effort into your response .

I'm probably too cynical and distrusting , tbh .

    Hi,
I'd forgotten that I was going to post photos up here. I took these pics today.

The brand name is Brand & Co., Birmingham and it's very heavy so I'm assuming decent quality. The intention is to ring around those numbers this week - if anyone knows anything about these first though it would be great to know.
