I'm considering purchasing either one of these and am looking for opinions from anyone that has any experience of either (or both) services.

They're both the exact same thing. The difference will be in the networks themselves.

Three easily beats Meteor on coverage, but Meteor's service far exceeds Three's (basically due to the low number of subscribers on Meteor).

So would I get faster speeds on Meteor due to there being a lot less people on their mobile broadband networks?

DIfference in price too. For 15GB on 1 year contract:

    THREE: METEOR:
€19.99 per month €24.99 per month
€69 for modem €39 for modem.

Anyone know if both Meteor and Three supply the same modems? With Three you get the Huawei E585. Is that the new updated WiFi modem and do Meteor supply the same one?

    thanks..

It's the same modem on both networks. Meteor will probably be better, if you have a signal, but you won't know till you check it out.

Use your phone to do a network search, and see what shows up. If you see Meteor 3G, then you at least have the signal. If you only see Meteor showing up as 2G, GPRS or EDGE, then you don't. Three only have a 3G network, it's very wide spread, but speed and quality tend to be very bad.

I did a signal seach and Meteor 3G shows up along with Three 3G etc.

I notice the Three have recently updated their modem (from the E5830 to the E585)
The reason we're so excited about this dongle is because it solves all of the problems we had with its predecessor: there's a simple on and off switch, an OLED display that shows you signal strength, battery life and how much data you're using, and you can finally charge the MiFi device while you're using it.

There is no mention on the Meteor site if they have also updated their modems. Anyone know for sure?

    Meteor: Huawei E5832

    3\Three: Huawei E585

    ---

The Meteor Modem seems to be a souped up E5830 modem. The OLED screen has been added, but unlike the E585, there's still more than one button for operating the device.

The 3\Three modem, the Huawei E585 is one button use. Only one normal user button on the device, excluding a reset pinhole on the device.

I would consider the E585 a superior mechanical device, but for network use, Meteor beats 3\Three hands down, for city\suburb use. Not sure what coutryside coverage would be like with them.

Think I'll go with the Meteor offer. It'll be mostly for city (Dublin) use so I'm sure I'll have no problem with coverage. Anyway, they have a 14 day money back guarantee.
