Could it be argued that some Irish guys are better off trying to go with the pro teams on the continent and keep away from the carding system?

Difficult to serve to masters being beholden to both and conflicts meaning neither master are happy.

Not sure I totally agree Shaungil but I do wonder why highly paid pros get funding when young cyclists who need it can't ?

With these 2 Sam Bennett, Sean Downey, Aaron Buggle and home based guys like Thomas Martin and Marcus Christie the U23 scene is as good as I can remember.

Does the UK system all feed together where you see track guys doing road stuff with Ralpha Contador Sky etc. Is it more linked up?

whereas continental team care only about results on continent and not focussed on Irish champs etc?

Just wondering more than anything. No agenda here. Roche came thru contintental system presume cos he grew up in france what about Martin and Deignan when did they move over?

most of the irish guys who have made it since scanlon kicked it off came through VC La Pomme in Marseille IIRC, if you to go pro, you go to the continent [this was before the an post team]

****in iPhone is a **** to browse from when your driving.. Sam Bennett has delayed his start by a few weeks due to tendonitis as well, just to contribute something useful to this thread...

I was "El Tonto"ed like this a few times last week

You can only be a Stagiare once so it's important to make sure you're fit and in shape to impress. Although it's a 6 month contract you really only have August and September to make an impression.

Sam's only young and is well advised (his Dad and his coach especially) so he'll be fine one way or the other.
