Demand prediction for tomorrow

Mods feel free to move if yet another iP4 thread is unnecessary!

Anyone care to take a guess as to how much demand there will be tomorrow, compared to launch day of the 3G & 3Gs, both previous launch days were mental, and if you didn't get one right away it was likely to be 2 months before normal stock levels appeared in the stores, so it was a case of having to ring stores on a daily basis hoping to get lucky.

Will this launch be as bad? There is a lot more competition out there now, and many people have a 3Gs's already, so although it will be undoubtedly mayhem for a few hours tomorrow do you think the same difficulty will be had to get one after launch day as seen after previous launches?

What time are people planning on queuing from to get one tomorrow?

Really? Where did you hear this?

That's madness. But there's only around 1000 handsets for the whole country is that correct?

do we actually know the exact amount of handsets in the country?

Guy in Vodafone told me about 1500 nationwide yesterday but I'd assume thats 1500 for VF the way he was talking

Ya never know, it could go the way of the iPad launch tomorrow....people vastly overestimating the hype

That was more of a question rather than a statement, it's just something I thought I seen posted here yesterday in one of the threads, surely there's more than that though?

it will the biggest iphone launch to date, iphones are more common and affordable now so everyone with a 3G particularly will want one tomorrow

It's hard to judge, I'd say most hardcore fans held off for 3GS and are now either out of pocket or tied in contract wise for a while. 3gs's are all over the place for sale which suggests some are gonna put what they make against the 4.

But who's gonna buy a 3GS for 375+ when for an extra 225 they can get the 4? And then there's 3's 40 euro a month deal...or as I see it, an iPhone 4 for the price of 2 pints a week!! Who ever thought cutting down on the drink had such sweet, sweet benefits?

It will be anther hyped non-event like the iPad launch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,127 ✭✭✭kjl

Maybe is will be hyped, but a lot of hard core fans just got the ipad in America and being unlock and sim free they can do what they want with them. But the iPhone 4 launch is different in that you need to be with a carrier to get the reduced deal.

judging by the amount of phone calls i received today the demand is much bigger than when the 3gs came out last year.

Im not looking forward to the chaos that will occur tomorrow morning when i have to break the bad news that there is no more stock.

I'm going to the o2 store for 6.30am. I decided this an hour ago. I really hope I get one :(

I didn't want to at first because I thought they'd be so expensive, but they really aren't.

    I so hope I get one :(

anyone that I know that really really wanted one now has one with their name on it, including me. I'd say there will be plenty to go around, esp. for people who used the brain a bit and rang/went into the stores ahead of tomorrow.

I put my name down over 2 weeks ago, registered interest on the site and rang the store. Its fair to say I want one and used my brain but got no phonecall. :(

The 3 store in Athlone have only a few i-phone 4 in stock for 2mrw, so says staff member when I called today.

Vodafone Athlone have 14 i-phone 4 in stock for 2mrw, all pre booked.

not sure if they will sell out though

banjo b I did the same as you and haven't got a call either, but I've been over and back between 2 local shops for the last week, this morning my preferred shop (closer) took my name and said she'd give me a ring tomorrow afternoon once the delivery arrived. I'm after the 32gb and she said there were 6 in front of me and there should be plenty to go around tomorrow once I had left my details. I rang the other shop this evening being nosy, just trying to find out when their stock was coming in and how many they were expecting. He said it arrived already, I've a 32gb in my hand I'll put your name on it now if you guarantee you'll be in tomorrow.. happy days :)
the way they were both talking though it sounded like there was no panic with supply and anyone that had their name down already would get one tomorrow.

Are O2 taking bookings? If so there is no point in draggin my ass out of bed to go get one as they'll be gone - this sucks.

My gut tells me this is going to be well over hyped though. It's all part of the marketing strategy - withholding delivery numbers, letting hysteria breed.

Edward Bernays will be laughing his ass off tomorrow :p

dunno what its like with o2 I'm afraid, any of the lads I know who have booked one are going with 3 or VF

Well here's hopin anyway. I'll be a happy man if I get the phonecall to pick it up. I'm on the fence about goin in early. It's probably fruitless if they're sticking to the list, even though I might be on it!!!. :P

Oooh i'm so tempted. €299 ain't so bad.

    I'm rationalising it like this
-I already have 6 months left on this contract, so by upgrading by 18 months tomorrow I'm really only extending my commitment by 12 months more than originally planned
-I get 1GB extra, even though to date I've never even been close to using my montly allowance
-My monthly payments will go down by €5

I got a free 'add on' when I singed up last year - unlimited texts to any network, I wonder if I would lose that on a new contract?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,103 ✭✭✭misslt

    Go for it :D

Although if you're o2 in Swords then no, no don't do it!! :p

I'm rationalising it quite easily - I was going to buy the 3GS for €200 and for an extra €60 sure why the hell not.

I just hope I get one!!

looks like I jinxed myself by being so cocksure..

just posted this on the Vodafone Forum - I will say I would have had no bother getting a 16gb in CPW and 32gb in 3..

very peed off with Vodafone Limerick at the mo, was after a 32gb and was told yesterday he was putting my details on one in his hand if I guaranteed that I'd be in today, told me not to bother queueing, got in at 9:30 with 2 kids in tow absolutely saturated to be told there were none available. When I started to kick up a fuss I was asked to hang around town as there was another delivery due at 11 and if there was a 32gb in that he'd give it to me. Surprise surprise 11:10 and there were no 32gb in the delivery. have a funny feeling that was just a ploy to get me out of the shop without causing a fuss. What sickens me is I could have bought it online and it would have been delivered on Tuesday, God only knows when I'll get one now!
