Thinking of starting up djing

Hey guys, some advice needed and would really appreciate any help. Last year, I bought some dj gear after. More because I like messing around at home than anything else. Since then though, family and friends have asked me to play music at parties for them. I have done a few gigs as favours, but I have turned down people who were at them who wanted me to do parties for them. One person I played for asked me how much did I want for the night...I said I wouldn't even hear of it, but i got an envelope with a few bob in at the end of the night. I have a day job, but I can tell you, that few bob really helped out in what was a tough week bills wise if you know what I mean. The few parties I've done have gone well, and I really enjoy and interact with the crowd...I don't mix music, just cue and crossfade, but I'm starting to think...hey, I have the gear, people are happy with me, why not make a go of it. What do I need to do regarding tax and licences etc.

Any advice/help appreciated as I don't want to start off on the wrong foot and looking at any trouble down the road.

    Cheers

What advice are you looking for? You look like you've already started DJing. Just start practicing mixing properly and beatmatching, doesn't take that long if you've got a musical ear. Once you can mix properly, make an hour long promo mix and put it on Soundcloud, then give that to promoters and DJs if you want to start trying to play clubs.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no license required. And as for tax, all you would be required to do is declare any income and file a tax return with the Reveneue Commisioner, filing date is 31st October - it can even be done on-line using the ROS system. See the website for details
