Hi I'm thinking of getting a Mitsubishi Galant in the next few months.

    Are they any good?
Anybody on here have one or had one in the past?

    I currently have a 1996 Mitsubishi Carisma 1.6 glx.

I quite like my current car its comfortable and has a fantastic capable engine.

But one thing that that realy anoys me about my current car is that if have my lights turned on and I turn off the car and remove the key the lights are still on. So quite often I have forgotten to turn the lights off and come back to find that my battery is flat and I have to jump start the car.

This to me is the stupidest function imaginable to have the lights separate from the ignition.

Is this the same story with the Galant?

Same story on any car - although on modern cars the lights usually cut after the car's locked (after a time-out).

Do you not have a buzzer when you open the door to alert you? I'd be inclined to start remembering when I need to start going to the trouble of jump starting the car on a regular basis.

No its not the same story on every car! This is my 5th car and the first to do this. Its not a Mitsubishi standard thing ether my girlfriends brothers has a 1998 lancer and the lights turn off with the key removed.

No buzzer. Ive had this car a year and today was 4th or 5th time its happened.

    Galant?

I had 2000 and 2001 model year Galants. My memory isn't the best but I'm pretty sure they did not cut off the lights when the ignition was turned off. There may have been a buzzer or maybe I'm mixing it up with the seat belt warning.

Anyway, the Galant while long in the tooth now, is miles better than the Carisma. Much more refined although harder on juice. Ride quality was very good on motorways, but poor on bumpy country roads. While I have fond memories of both my Galants, they were ultra reliable (kinda sorry I sold the second one), the last model wasn't really developed over its lifespan, as Mitsubishi were broke at the time. It is still a looker even today, but way off todays standard in terms of dynamics (VR4 / Legnum excluded).
