    Hello Everyone.

Ok, well I juts bought a vauxhall Corsa. Its great apart from the black paint on the alloys has peeled in places.

What would be the best solution to remedy this?

People have suggested hammerite paint to me. Has anyone ever tried this method.

Id appreciate all suggestions and advice very much.

    Thanks,
    James

Wouldn't do it. 'That'll do' solution is not a solution, in my opinion.
Take them off, bring them to the powdercoating place and let them to worry about it.
Pick them up in a day or two, problem solved.

I could see that turning into a very expensive job though:(

It is very expensive, about €450 to get the four wheels powder coated. Another option would be to just get them painted, I was talking to pro parts in blanchardstown recently, they charge 250. Dr.Vag (Onkle) from here got his done from a crowd and is very pleased with them, from pics they look super too. I think he paid €260 and they came to him and done it in a truck.

Send him a PM if you're interested in going that route. He got his done in one day, Pro Parts told me there would be a two week turn around because their sprayer is so busy

Depends what you are looking to get. Proper job or 'just a job'. If it's the second, get a rattlecan and do it yourself. it'll cost you 15 quid max.

Get them redone professionally, wouldn't look great at all if you did it yourself.

Yep. Have done wheels myself in the past. Get the best rattlecans you can though. I'd factor more like 50-60 quid into it tbh. Get some decent sandpaper in various grades to smooth the surface and to key the existing paint. Then get some decent primer, high build if you've lots of imperfections. You can use something like chemical metal to build up really bad dings. Fire the primer on. Lots of thin coats, flatted down is way better than one thick coat. When it looks good and smooth in primer then start with the actual colour. Again lots of thin coats to build up the finish. Then a lacquer coat to seal the whole thing. The better the quality of the rattle cans and the more you prepare and the better the result. Or follow Graham_B18C's advice and do what Dr Vag did.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Yeah, cheapest option is do them yourself.

Im currently in the process of spraying up a new set of wheels i bought.

The sanding part is a pain in the teeth but the preparation is the most important part.

Here's a little guide I found online which might be of help:

See the top picture there a a silver metal part in the centre of the alloy, where the alloy cap fits nicely. but in the 2nd pic there is no silver metal part in the centre of the alloy. So the alloy cap wont fit in that. Where can I buy the silver metal thing?:D

reckon ebays your main man, jus measure the diameter of the hole and grab a new full set, http://cgi.ebay.ie/Vauxhall-Alloy-Wheel-Center-Caps-Set-4-/150554092527?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item230db923ef

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^maybe of some use to you:cool:

Yeah I've been watching eBay, looking for a full set. There dam expensive though usually costing 50-70 euro just for 4.

So yeah there are great buy from that link but there 65mm and my diameter is 55mm.

Thanks for the reply and help though.

    heres another option for ya.

    try the universal caps 55mm........

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/55MM-UNIVERSAL-CENTRE-CAPS-VW-VAUXHALL-RENAULT-WOLFRACE-/110533551100?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item19bc5023fc

and then get the 55mm vauxhall stickers...........

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/Vauxhall-Alloy-Wheel-centre-cap-Badges-55mm-set-4-/160519706937?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item255fb85939

    tidy,cheap and cheerfull

be way better lookin than them silver things on it already

    steve

edit.....instead of the 55mm set get the 60mm set of both as the 55mm sets are the outer diameter of the caps and are too small. were the 60mm can fit in a 52mm - 57mm hole. so get the 60mm caps with the 60mm stickers, if you choose to do so.
