Have done a search here, on Dept, TUI and ASTI sites. Has this not been finalised yet?

    Anyone know the dates?

I have a copy of a Dept Circular (0107/2007) that gives the standardised school years but only up to 2010/2011. I'm not sure anything has been released since.

Thanks Spurious. Does anyone else find it suspicious that the dates haven't been set yet at a time when they're trying to get more productivity out of us? The length of the Easter break could be interesting in relation to orals and practicals.

Got a reply. They said the dates haven't been drawn up yet and the parties involved will probably meet soon after the summer holidays.
They seem to do them in batches of 3 years at a time.

:( Did you hear any more on this? I've been searching all the usual sites and couldn't find anything.

No, never heard any more from them.
I'll ask the person who replied to me again - always a bit better if you have a name you can ask directly.

    That'd be great, thanks.

Got a speedy reply to the effect that the dates have not been agreed yet and they hope to have word early in the New Year.

Thanks for that, better not book anything yet!

Bumping this up to see if anybody has anything confirmed yet. I want to book summer hols, not unreasonable at this stage, but not sure when the schools might be going back.

I know the ssy doesn't give start dates but I can work backwards when I see the hol dates and subtract from school days etc.

Anybody hear know what dates their own sec schools are going back in August?

Deise, every school can choose its own date to go back after the summer, so standard year isn't going to help you.

I know it doesn't bhobc but as I said above, I can work backwards on it to guesstimate a start date.

    oops, sorry.

    No worries.

It seems very late to be sorting it out, doesn't it?

It hasn't been decided yet - delay is due to all involved in the decision making process trying to factor in how days in the standardised year can be made up due to snow closures, closures due to lack of heat / frozen pipes / flooding & other exceptional closures.

They want schools to be able to work the correct number of days in the school year & not deducting days for exceptional closures.

Good idea and fair enough in theory but you may as well take the word 'standard' out of it so. Schools in Donegal won't always get frozen pipes or snow if Cork schools do. Don't fancy their job.

I wonder will they go towards 'floating' days being taken from the subsequent academic years calendar.

    Hello,
Anybody know what the school year dates are now for 2011-2012?
    Thanks in advance:)

    Mid Terms are:

    31/10/11- 4/11/11

    13/2/12- 17/2/12

That is the dates that we were given in school.

We open on the 29th August and school closes on June 1st 2012.

    Easter is 30/3/12- 16/4/12

For primary the week of spring midterm may be shortened to 2 days if there are three snow days. The first week of Easter hols may also be shortened for snow days or exceptional closings like days where there is no ESB/water/heat etc.

Schooldays.ie has an update for 2011/2012 - all holidays

Where can I buy a school calendar that cover both primary and post primary holidays so that I know in advance and can write in notes/reminders on the calendar.
I want a physical calendar not one online like schooldays.ie

Why not get an academic school calendar and fill in the dates? I just got my TUI wall planner and filled all the dates in. Its now on the classroom wall for students and myself
