As far as I know, you can't buy a complete one, you can only get the shell.

hmmm i dont know am i at the stage yet that i could confidenly build a gearbox from scratch.I think ill stick to my original plan and pick up a second gearbox.

I bought that gearbox shell mentioned above.
My own opinion is it is a complete waste of money.
Slightly larger than a standard shell, so can be a very tight fit in your receiver. The quick release on it is fairly pointless as you still have to take the gearbox out of the receiver to remove the quick release part!!:(

ahhh .That's what i was thinking.Whats the story with the ares and ics gear boxes? Are they generally compatible with generic brands G&P mauri?

Ics split gearboxes only fit into ICS receivers!
As far as I am aware.
I know my ICS gearbox doesn't fit into my G&G or my G&P receivers.
Not sure about the Ares ones.:(

both ics and ares/star gearboxes need to be used with there own receivers

what is the idea behind the project, what are you looking to do? you might be able to use both as a base for you, im planing on doing a project with an ares m4 turning it into a mk12 spr, want to build a high torque gearbox limited to semi and take advantage of the quick change spring when travelling

I was kinda thinking that (about the ics and ares).I was hoping someone else was doing one.My project is a madbull diablo front end on a g&p magpul type metal body and a socom gear ace stock and fitted with a extreme-fire sw-evolution mosfet. So i was going to use a g&p 8mm re-wired gearbox.I plan on using for cqb around 280-300 and then if i wanted to it outdoors then i could change the spring, but as i said to lefty i can always just pick up a second gearbox.Do you know anything about the ultimate gearboxes?
