Alright lads. Just a quick question in relation to exhausts for the legal eagles out there. If the car is over ten years old, are there no limits to the decibles? Or is it the car has to be before 93?

    Thanks in advance.

Doesn't matter what age it is, to pass the NCT it has to be below 99DB.

On the road its up to a Garda's opinion on whether it is a cause of noise pollution.

The only thing pre 93 car's are exempt from with regards exhausts in the NCT is the requirement to have a cat.

I read somewhere that if your exhaust is really loud from the factory, the manufactorer can give a cert to say so and that exempts you. I can only imagine it'd be the case with supercars only

No it's only a 1.4 MPi Fabia, with a few aftermarkets thrown in.

My ITR passed the NCT a few weeks back with an aftermarket exhaust. I had a bung in it, it was still loud(ish) but it passed no problem!

As above, it doesnt matter what year the car is.

One of my friends is driving a 90 Escort with a fairly loud exhaust on her and failed (quite badly!:o) the NCT on a number of things, one of which being the exhaust decibel level being too high. Think it was around 99db?

EDIT: just seen there it has to be below 99db, will have to double check me mates NCT report again to see what db level it was. (unless it actually was 99db and the tester was being a right pr1ck!)
