My car hit another car - what now?

    Hi there
this morning I hit another car in the left front bumper just before the wheel. Place underground car park. I was going to turn left to the ramp (visibility to the right is very poor) and i didnt see coming car from the right cuz there is no signs or mrrors in the front wall that you could see if someone is comming. I was driving around 5km/h and i just stop on the other car. My car got scratched (2001 Passat) a bit in front bumper and the other car (2001 Lanos) has some damage in his bumper so it will need some body work.
We exchange our names, phone numbers, regs and car insurance policy numbers. What will happen now? I'm totally green in this matter. If he will make a clim? My ins comp will cover the damage? Do I have to pay for the damage? Any sugesstions?
    Thanks

from your description, sounds like you didnt yield at a T junction, and may well be judged to be at fault, if the insurance companies dispute it.

His insurance company will get in touch with yours.
There is also the option he'll get a quote for the job to fix the bumper and want to settle it outside the insurance. If so then you should also try to get a quote for the job to make sure he isn't fleecing you.
Also offer to pay the garage directly, not him, in that case.

And what if he will do this through the ins comp, will I lose my 3yrs no claims bonus, will my ins will go up, do i still need to pay from my pocket for the damage? I have fully comp ins 123.ie - Travelers Ins Comp, His is Aviva.

It will go up if he goes through insurance but at the same time the insurance company will want to retain your business so they may limit the hike.

It doesnt sound like a lot of damage, so inform your insurance company just to cover yourself but I would make every effort to pay for it out of your own pocket. Even if your insurance company do end up paying out you can pay them back the amount which they paid out before your next renewal and it shouldnt affect your NCB.

From what you have said however I dont think there is much need to involve the insurance company other than to notify them of what happened.

surely the OP has NCB protection so shouldnt result in an increase, just sticks you with the same company for the next couple of years

As above, i would be paying privately for this, would not involve insurance company for what sounds like minor damage

Not necessarily. A lot of companies Ive dealt with require that you have a full NCB (5 years) before they will offer protected NCB. The OP says he has 3 years NCB. Either way, for the sake of what sounds like a couple of hundred quids worth of damage Id just take the hit and pay out of my own pocket. Worth it if it means having a clean insurance policy.

Depends on the signage? Some undergrounds have funny rules about yielding etc.
