One copy enough for 2 person LAN?

Will this work offline with the same copy installed on two machines? Looking at picking it up tommorrow but wondering does my mate need another? Also, is the campaign co-op?

    Regards.

There's no offline mode unfortunately. You do get two 7 hour guest passes with a copy if that's any help.

They removed LAN operation in an attempt to force Esports to be run only when Blizzard approve of it.

Releasing each campaign on its own.

    No lan spawning

    Blizzard are some misers.

Releasing a 15+ hour, 30 mission campaign, and then releasing two more over the next year. How dare they!

Wanting each person who plays the game, to pay for the game. Those devils!

Making money for a brilliantly designed product. Wont somone think of the children!

You know people gotta start thinking like Blizz if they wanna give the PC games industry a bit of a boost. Too many hard working developers are getting their games pirated and losing out on tons of money. Its only fair for Blizz to be doing what they are doing.

The reason for no LAN is kespa. Blizzard is still pissed over that case they loss against them. Basically blizzard wanted some of their e-sports money.

Things got worse when blizz sponsored the GOMTV tournament. Kespa made the starcraft teams boycott it.

So if kespa want to broadcast SC2 starleagues, they'll be doing it through battle net and blizz's terms.

tbh, i expected this. Blizzard are like Pixar, they make amazing products, but they're still business'. At the end of the day, they wanna make money, but with dignity :)

I'd much rather pay blizzard for this game than pay 1c for each EA game, those games are ridiculously bad and have the lifespan of sperm on a tissue.

LAN spawning was awesome back in the day, but lets be fair about it: hands up who had fast broadband in 1998?

Both LAN and spawn copies were pretty necessary back when you had 56k modems (or less) so you could play with someone at decent speeds and find someone to play against locally.

Now, the only real reason for Blizz to have LAN support would be to be nice. Since the whole kespa mess makes LAN support a liability for them - well, we're just not going to see it.

Without LAN, spawn copies stop having a point. C'est la vie

I can imagine a solution would be to have a server edition of the game.
Where 1 machine is the server, that is connected to Bnet, and everyone at the LAN is connected to this server. The server being connected to Bnet could verify all the users and Cd-Keys, thus negating the need for a huge internet connections at larger lans, just to support SC.

Blizzard has stated that they will bring in local Bnet servers "as needed" if memory serves; so I think that would be a bit of a over kill (and make it a bit to easy to hack to avoid the Bnet check or fake it to allow all to play on hacked games).

I think my info is out of date. I just had a quick read of some sites and it appears kespa won't be doing any starleagues after August due to blizz signing a contract with GOMTV.

Anyone know any more info on this as the articles were around May/June?

I'd like to see tasteless return to shoutcast SC2 for GOMTV.

yeah dont get me wrong I felt the same way he did when we first heard that crap but having tasted the first few campaign missions and about 20 of the new ladder-system matches, I definitely feel as though I got my money's worth. That said, it depends on what they do with the Expansions for the Protoss and Zerg Campaigns and if that will involve any improvements on the multiplayer. For one thing I would like to be able to spectate matches, or even have the option to have multiple players control a single player race/economy. Why? For ****s and giggles, thats why. Its also nice to watch your friends play a 2v2 and cheer them on over ventrilo.

  • No LAN really sucks to be honest. As if 50 - 60 squid isn't enough. Suppose we could play over net..same difference. Thanks for the help guys.
