I'm certain one of you know BMW 2002's and will be very familiar with this problem

Both of my front floor pans are completely shot. The rust definitely upgraded to rot many years ago and they have to be removed.

What I wanted to know is if there is a definite sequence/process to do this job? Is there a danger of the car becoming 'mis-aligned' when a floorpan is removed and the subframe not attached to the floor.......that would be the final nightmare in this anravelling horror story.

Last week - Took out the spare wheel and the booth floor fell off...............

Will post pics when I stop crying!!!!

Sorry to hear of your troubles. There are a number of classis rust areas in 02s, including the boot floor and the front floor pans, but the great thing about old beemers is that almost all of the panels are still available to buy new. Lots of restored cars will have new panels. I've never heard any problems about misalignment when fitting new panels, but i imagine it could be a problem depending on how sound the rest of the car is.

NOt sure if the subframe is attached to the floor (don't think it is) but register with bmwclassicsireland.com and you will find expertise and advice from a variety of 02 owners. I have one too.

Cheers lads. I'll go ahead and register on that site.

If you know of anyone breaking a 2002 can you let me know. Petrol tank is goosed too....too weak to take a weld. Would sooner get a second hand rather than waste anymore time trying to repair
