by a partner in same house (townland address) but same bank a/c. Anything against this - just damned if I'm paying for a new box after 2 years. Been a perfect customer for 17-18 years does not seem to count. Any experiences of this scenario? Thanks in advance!

    +1

But I think if at all possible you should use a different Bank a/c. I'm thinking of doing the same, but my address has slightly changed & it will be in the OH's name and different Bank.Alternately UPC are under consideration, but only if they can give me the + service that I have with Sky.

No options here at all in the west! Its just the box is banjaxed and we're football fanatics, so moving to free-to-air seems so hit and miss as regards what card to buy, english commentary etc. If I had any confidence at all in getting what I want/need I'd move, as I'm currently paying Sky 108 pm, full package with sky+, HD charge, Espn and Chelsea TV. think they owe me a box!!
Could possibly use a different bank a/c. and then downgrade package a bit!
    Thanks for that!

Or... call them and explain the box is faulty?? If they don't offer to investigate at no cost to you, then say you would like to cancel your subscription.

What is wrong with the box that makes it "banjaxed". The regulars on the forum may also be able to assist.

Been making a lot of noise for some time now.... now wont rewind, freezes if you pause it, has been going to stand-by when you ask it to ... maybe red button on sky news, takes anything upto 2 minutes to change channels. Seems it may be power board failure or hard-drive failing. My recent records have failed too. Have spoken to a few people on here and it appears to be one of the above with capacitors blowing being a coomon fault on this particular Thompson box. I will be prefacing my call to Sky tomorrow with this problem, but last night the lady I talked to did not want to know. But my resolve is a little further along now.... But yeah - sure I'll give it another try.
    Cheers!

The new Tring package on 16east is a bargain at about £300 for all 360 EPL matches this year (so they say). A dish and box would cost about €200ish. No way would I give sky €100+ p/m and for a crap box.

For the Ultimate package go for something with 2 tuners eg, vu+ duo at about €400 and you can record at least 2 channels and under the right conditions I was recording 8.

You would buy all the top gear and cards for less than 1 season of sky/espn etc. Then next year it's only £300 for the card for tring.

I know, I know.... but I'm a bit of a techno-phobe - currently struggling to transfer my recordings off my (dying) planner on to a DVD recorder which I bought and never used! Cant even connect it up right it seems!! I suppose Satellite.ie or one of those guys would set everything up - but I get very tense if I miss ANYTHING Chelsea related! I guess its just taking the leap - after that , I'd never look back. Plus my other half is a cricket buff!! Thanks for the pointer.. are you in the trade youself?

If it's football and cricket you want Sky is best-some of the other guys on boards were looking for cricket on foreign tv but not available. A new contract with Sky only costs 30 euro for install of a HD box

I can't even begin to imagine why you would be recording 8 channels at one time...

OP I cancelled a couple of months ago and my wife is subscribing now - I do think you need different bank details though.

I left Sky for 2 yrs (during the dodgey box peak) and returned to them as a "new" customer by putting an O' in front of my surname ... ordered online - didn't think it would work but it did :D

Situation resolved by Sky man coming and actually giving us a Free New Box. I checked if Sky would bill us for same and he said - No - as it would go down as a 'system fault', that after him checking and seeing for himself that box was not re-winding, recording etc. So - happy out here - will do some trimming on my package now, because money is too tight tpo be giving this to Sky every month. But for once, a pleased Sky customer!
