I am a total fake tan virgin. Got sun fx done for my debs but that was years ago. Never used the stuff since, except for Johnsons Holiday Skin (disaster) Now my sisters wedding is coming up and I have to get something. What should I get? I've heard Loreal Sublime Bronze is ok. I was going to get Tanorganic because that has no bad chemical smell, but I've heard bad reviews.

Ladies, what should I get? Bear in mind that I never use it so I need something that is fool proof? Ooh and one that doesn't smell too bad.

    All input gratefully received!;)

    Thanks.

Loreal sublime bronze - the instant but developing one if you get me!

Think its the gel. You can see it going on so you don't miss bits and it develops really nicely. It's also kinda instant so its good for a last minute running out the door thing!

Get yourself a good tanning mitt and this and you're laughing, I swear by it!

Tan smell is a big issue for me too. Im always on a mission to find the perfect fake tan so ive pretty much tried everything at this stage and I wasnt impressed with Tan Organic.

    My favourites are:

Legs: Sally Hansen (Wouldnt put anything else on my legs)
Instant Tan: Bronze Express by Academie
Developing Tan: Wow Brown DIY -This is a new irish one which im very impressed by www.wowbrown.com

If I have a big occasion coming up ill use the wow brown the night before then shower in the morning and it comes out a lovely even golden tan. If I'm too lazy to do it the night before ill do the bronze express it comes out instantly but also continues to develop for a few hours. Ill always use sally hansen for any occasion that requires my milk bottle legs to be on show.

I choose Loreal Sublime Bronze Gel too.
If your looking for something a bit lighter that you can top up, then you could give Dove tan moisturiser a go. The Dove is cheap enough too at about €3-€6.

Yeah Loreal Sublime Bronze Gel is the way to go, it's reasonably cheap and I find it brilliant! Be carefull of your hand, get a mit or make sure to wear gloves. Apparently, Amy Huberman wore it for her wedding!!!! If your fairly flush St. tropez is also good and so so easy to apply-alot more expensive though!

L'Oreal sublime bronze all the way! The tinted gel so you can see it going on. However, I do find it takes ages to absorb, better off putting it on when you have time after to sit watching tv or something for a while....

Egypt Wonder is also really good, really natural looking!

I totall agree with sugarbomb. i have a couple of coats on now and you would swear i was abroad! my sister tried it for the first time also at the weekend and she thought it was excellent. i dont use the gel one, i use the other one in the "fair" colour as im fair.. its also great for your face aswell!!

another great one is the new "Rockstar" one, i got it in the spray, lovely smell of it and no stickiness and dries in a few minutes..

another tip from my sister is once your tan is done, put a very light sprinklin of talcum powder over ur tan and no stickiness!!

keep forgettin to get powder so must try that the next time!! lol..

I would also say wow brown

If you don't do tan much maybe get it done in a salon. My local salon does wow brown for €30 so its not much more tha buying the bottle

If you're getting tan done in a salon, I would say HeShi. Its been my favourite.

If you're doing it yourself, I would recommend either

St Tropez Moose (Its instant tan) or
BronzXpress. Be careful with that however, as it goes on as instant but does get darker.

I find Rimmel sun shimmer works quite well, although the smell can get quite strong if you use too much.

If you buy the light/fair version, you can build it up to whatever colour you want. I'd recommend buying the matte texture rather than the shimmery version because it goes on easier.

    It's also 5 euro in pennys :)

The most important thing of all is to exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! If you dont do that you will never get a proper finish no matter what you use. And, after exfoliation, moisturise your body every day.
I came across a new product in Arnotts this year called Model Co Sun Sponge. Tan/colour comes out on the sponge and you apply it to arms, legs etc. I am a self-tanning disaster but even I could use this one. It's worth a try!!

Xen Tan. Only one I will use. Never goes orange, and I have very very light skin. But everyone always thinks it's natural. I use the gradual one and I only need one application of it to give me a "tanned look", or whatever. And it smells of vanilla!

Sublime Broze is fab, I use Sally Henson for legs a lot, but I use it all over

I would say St Moriz is honestly the best tan I have ever used. Its like 4 or 5 euro in unicare

I use the mousse, it is so easy to apply. It gives you an instant colour, but also develops while you wear it, so you dont have to worry about reapplying every day (or looking pasty for a while :p)

Also, cause its a mousse, If you make a mistake, just keep rubbing and it will go away! Its a really natural looking tan. I loves it!

Cannot believe I'm agreeing, but yes. Myself and another friend heard about this St.Moriz tan from another girl who SWORE by it. So we tried it, got it in Penny's for €4 and it's genuinely the best tan I've ever used. Dare I say I prefer it too my beloved Sally Hansen :p At €4 you really cannot go wrong and it develops so nicely and wasn't patchy at all, at all which i found with St. Tropez.

    +1

I love when cheap stuff works better than everything else! :D

    St Moriz for me too.

Doesnt smell, goes on easy and doesnt streak, lovely natural glow and wears off fine too.

Like any tan you need to exfoliate and moisturise first but the results with this stuff is really great.

Another thumbs up for St Moriz here!

I always used to get a spray tan in a salon so I was nervous using a self tan for the first time in years but it really was foolproof.

I exfoliated and moisturised the day before, then exfoliated again the day I put it on. I even put it on my face, which I was nervous about, because I didn't want to have a pale face and tanned body.
I got so many compliments on it!

Just a question about the St Moriz? Whats it like after a day or two? Does it come off well?? I usually use the Loreal sublime bronze gel. But have a bottle of the St Moriz but I'm afraid to use it

I've been using it or about 2 weeks now, comes off fine. Proper scrub in the shower and you're sorted. It doesn't get patchy or anything (for me it hasn't at least), really bizarre but I'm stocking up on the stuff now.

I put some (St Moriz) on last Friday and its worn off really evenly with exfoliation. Obviously it will wear off your hands a little quicker but get some of those scrubby gloves and you can make it look really even!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭smoggy11

I find if I take a bath with the St. Moriz it pretty much all comes off with minimal scrubbing. Quick shower after and you're sorted!

I really like it too, cause it doesn't come out te same colour for everyone. Me and my mum both use it and we look different colours. It works with you're own skintone :)

To be honest if you don't regularly use fake tan then I think you should get a spray tan done for the wedding. It will avoid any major disasters!
A lot of salons are doing special offers on full body sprays at the moment so check out a few places.

It's a bit of a trial and error process finding the right tan but if you really don't want to get it done in a salon then there are two that I'd recommend:

    Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan
Plus side: tan appears straight away so you can make sure it is even/blended/no streaks. You can also use Rimmel bronzer on your face so that your face isn't white in the pictures (people always forget their face and it shows up in photos!)
Drawback: Don't use it if you think it will rain, it will start to come off and get patchy

    Top Image
This tan is available in a cream or a liquid. I'd recommend the cream since you haven't applied fake tan before. Always exfoliate first and use a mit to apply. Anyway the good thing about this tan is that similar to the Rimmel tan it shows up straight away on the skin so you can make sure it is applied properly. It dries fast and the tan deepens in colour over the next few hours. It's an instant tan but it last days and isn't affected by the rain so it hits all the nails on the head so to speak! The only thing is it is not as widely available as some other tans. It is really popular in Cork and in parts of Munster. I'm not sure where you are based but you may find it in a pharmacy near you!

Keep the spray tan! I've had a spray tan in both Douglas Beauty and Falvey's in Douglas and they were both amazing! For weddings, birthdays, events I always get a spray tan :) You can choose how dark you want it too be as well.
