Checked around go ipad data rates, by far three is offering the best. Also they don't charge to Roam abroad where their are Three networks (like UK and Italy).. No rates from Meteor.

Vodafone and O2 give the exact same rates it seems, so no competition there, so it looks like Three are the winners. I did not like them as a Phone provider, but I use their prepaid broadband all the time.

    Vodafone
    €20per month
    30 day plan for iPad
    5GBdata allowance
    30days

    €3.99per day
    1 day plan for iPad
    500MBdata allowance
    24hours

    o2

    Daily 24 hour Pass €3.97 500MB 2c per MB
    30 Day Pass €19.90 5GB 2c per MB

    3 Three

Price Plan 3Broadband Light 3Broadband Active
    Monthly Rental €9.99 €19.99
    Data allowance 1GB 15GB

Is the 3 iPad plan SIM available in-store or just online? Basically, can I just walk into a store, get a SIM and start using it potentially within minutes?

The 3 plan is pay monthly and not pay as you go, unlike the other operators' plans. You need to bring your passport or driving licence with you and set up a direct debit. Don't know if there's a minimum contract term or not.

But yes, you can it in a 3 store and start using straight away.

Actually three does offer pay as you go exactly the same benefits from 3 Broadband.

I rang the 3 store in Dundrum and that's what they told me. This for the micro sim for 3G iPads.

i bought my iPad in Arnotts and got a Three micro sim with it. Got home and rang Three, provided my bank details (no passport etc need) and was up and running within 30 mins. i went for the Light 1GB per month - should do me, great value. and its a rolling 30 day contract so they keep taking the direct debit until i cancel it, no yearly contract WOOHOO!

Thanks. It doesn't seem to have a minimum contract term. At least the site says "No long contracts" as a selling point.

There isn't much difference between normal mobile broadband plans and ipad plans, except they're making a big swing of supplying the micro sim and charging extra for it in some cases eg O2 charge a fiver extra for the micro sim or Vodafone charge 99 c / day extra

What access points are being used - the mobile internet ones or the mobile broadband ones, eg with Vodafone is it live.vodafone.com or hs.vodafone.ie or with Meteor are you using data.mymeteor.ie or broadband.mymeteor.ie?

If you wanted a prepay option with 3 you could get a prepay sim for mobile broadband and cut it down or get a mifi or ask for a micro sim replacement for prepay broadband sim.

Hey... I need some help. I got my iPad today and my three micro sim, but I think they screwed up as it's a pre pay one.....

Can I change it over the phone or have I wasted€10 on this? And if so, how do I go about getting the right sim?

    Thanks, Patrick

Hey guys, I got my iPad last week and I have to say the threes data plans seem to be the best, € 20 for 15 Gb really puts vodafone and o2's €20 5Gb plans to shame. I personally don't want the recurring €20 a month when I would have times that I would have very light use for it, although if there €10 plan offered 5Gb instead of 1Gb the I could live with that. I got mine in compub in limerick and was given a vodafone and three micro sim so I could make up my mind later at home.
I think what I'll do for the moment is get my three sim activated for 3pay broadband (not mentioning that it will be going into an iPad) and top up as needed with the €25 for 7.5Gb a month. This should work.
I should be able to ring and change to a pay monthly later if I want to.

Patrick, they should be able to change it over the phone. As long as it is a micro-sim the gave you and you still have the card with all the details (number ect.) then they should be able to change it to bill at their end.

Also how great would it be if the carriers offered a prepay bandwidth plan. I would love to be able to pay, say €30-€40 for 5 Gb or 10 Gb of bandwidth that doesn't expire after one month.

Yeah, thought something this would have be out by now.

Yeah.. brought this up recently somewhere.

That would suit me down to the ground.

Couldn't agree more. The first to introduce credit that doesn't expire- thus allowing for occasional usage- will have my business for good.

I enquired at Carphone warehouse if I could have a bill pay broadband service on an Ipad from O2 and they told me that O2 only support prepay on the Ipad.
Called to an O2 shop and they said that they do provide a bill pay service for the Ipad. They also say that the download speed is twice as fast with bill pay as opposed to prepay. Why the conflicting details.
    Thanks for any info.

I would suspect that Car Phone Warehouse didn't have the information.

I went in to enquire about a microSIM and broadband package for iPad as I thought they could give me an overview of all that were available and help me choose the best one. I had already done some research and was thinking of going with 3 but wasn't sure about coverage and quality.

Spent half an hour watching the girl look around the internet for information, which I had already done. She then told me everything I already knew and that you couldn't get a Pre-pay package with O2 but coverage for all the others was poor. She did say though they had received very little information from the mobile companies and admitted she didn't know very much.

I left empty handed, went in to the O2 store down the road and left with a pre-pay card with €20 credit and a free day pass worth €3.97 on it.

All 3 sim cards are pre provisioned so if you want to change from prepay to bill pay you'll need to get a bill pay micro sim card

If I cut down my O2 mobile broadband sim card can i use that in an iPad?

Just found out today that o2 are doing a pay monthly option. €19.99 a month for 15gb limit on a 6 month contract

This would be perfect. Keep using data until your bandwidth runs out, then top up again.

The best iPad 3G option is three(3)
Get a payg micro sim (meant for a ip4) and top it up online using a voucher bought in a shop with say €10 and then buy 2 500mb add-ons which are €4.99 each. That equals to 1GB and best of all the two add-ons run one after another. 1gb isn't alot but I do my main surfing via wi-fi and it's handy to have the data there when I need it.

Just be careful the 500MB allowance with 3 has a one month expiry. better to top up and buy the add ons when needed.
