I have a Mexican pine fireplace and coffee table and was thinking of making up some shelving that would match. I presume that it is not actually "Mexican Pine" but ordinary pine stained, but what do they use to stain it with. Forgive my ignorence.........

Depending on the tone of the timber I've found that coloured wax works well. Ronseal do, or at least did offer wax in a range of shades, ie antique pine, dark oak etc. Applying a stain wouldnt look the same, go with the wax.
