I was just wondering if the panel is coming back to RTE One for a new series & if the republic of telly will rerurn to RTE Two.

hopefully neither unless they drug dara o briain and bring him back to host the panel again. republic of telly should never have been allowed to air in the first place. pile of muck.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Panel come back, needs a proper host though, that changing it every week lark was just a TV show for the sake of having a TV show.

We need some sort of topical show, the late late is a lost cause as far as I'm concerned. Whenever I call into RTEs website theirs just nothing that looks even remotely appealing.

RTE dont have the presenters for any new show. they havent even got presenters for the ones they have.

Even if they had delemere or murphy as host it would be quite good

The Autumn schedule announcement should be out in the next few weeks. We'll learn then.

Every series of The Panel since Dara O'Brian left has felt like it was going to be, or should have been, the last. But that's four years ago and it was still going at the beginning of the year. McWilliams did not to me work as presenter and TBH it needs a comedian presenting it. A return to the Delamere/Murphy sharing arrangement would be grand IMHO but I guess they didn't want to do that.

There is nothing wrong with the format. It's just the content that has slipped the last few seasons. Using cringeworthy youtube clips as a basis for discussion is best left for those late night channel 4 fillers. The token female panelist isn't needed either.
Colin Murphy done a fine job in the host's chair and should be retained.

I agree 100%. They should much sooner broadcast me regularly making comments about things into my webcam and release it unedited, it might also do a lot of good for the country.

Mock the Week also makes it looks even worse. If there were no Mock the Week people could say "how do you expect people to be that funny all the time?" but you see it every week in Mock the Week.

Even without Frankie, it was still much better than The Panel has been the last few years.

Oh I'm not denying that, I never found the panel remotely funny

the panel was funny when dara was in charge, it was the full hour length. now its edited in a crappy way. dont think ive laughed at it since dara left, maybe at maxwell but thats it.

Needs a complete makeover. Was terrible and often cringeworthy to watch during the last season.

ugh! They couldn't have picked anyone worse than him.

The last series was appalling. Never really gelled. McWilliams was not the right choice. Dismally unfunny, no spark of original wit. The editing was amateurish. To be fair some of the panelists were struggling at times too.

I'll give Craig a chance, but really it started so well with O'Briain that he'll have his work cut out to restore it to any glory. Should have given it to Delamere full time. He was way better on that show than the Republic of Telly.

Still, let's give him a chance. If only because they might have Jean Byrne on at some point as a guest.

Could somebody explain why they keep passing Delamere and Colin Murphy for the presenting role? Craig Doyle's attempts at humour on his Saturday night show were dismal. At least Delamere and Murphy are comedians, surely that's what the show needs?

I think one of the reasons is they both have hectic schedules requring them to be elsewhere maybe? However, I agree with you, both are superior, are actually funny, and can keep the show on the road.

Perhaps we should be thankful we weren't landed with the congenitally humourless Jason Byrne, Hector O'Hecthagawn, or dregsmeister Patrick Kielty.

Maybe, but they used to be on the show nearly every single week, so I'd doubt that that's the reason.

i thought mairead farrell was a shoe-in for the host slot
    she'll be gutted
even ray darcy or daithi whatshisface woulda been a better call than craig plank doyle
i suppose they had to give him a show when his saturday night effort was axed

Craig Doyle has been anounced as new host.

    No way

    What a farce.

RTE showing their true colours once again for giving us nothing but tripe. Talk about killing a show that was once the TV highlight of the week.

In fairness, does anyone find that Doyle lad funny?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 785 ✭✭✭Shane10

i dont mind seeing her i have to say....:o could see a lot worse than mairead sitting there! shes as funny as delamere and hes supposed to be a comedian.

I used to really enjoy the Panel, but the host situation last year really brought it down in my view. Maybe we could entice Dara to come for a few weekends and give us a good show (never gonna happen now that he's doing so well but I can dream!)
