The Oxford built Mini will return to the FIA World Rally Championship from next year, it has been revealed.

The Banbury-based Prodrive team will prepare the car for selected races in 2011, and then enter it for a full programme of racing in 2012.

    Full BBC article

A far cry from the days of Paddy Hopkirk in the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally in the No. 37 Mini Cooper S but great to see that Manufacturers still rate the WRC as worthwhile in the quest to market & prove the muscle of a car.

its a pity the new one is a horrendous ugo.

Mads Olstberg is to carry out alot of the test and development work and he is to run a M2 team next year through his Adapta concern.
drivers been sounded out to drive for the tesm are Gronholm also linked Meeke, PG Andersson,
lets Hope Prodrive Built a Better car than the S14 which has to be one of the worst WRC's ever built.its good to see a new manufacturer coming in but from talk the mini will not break cover untill the Fith round next year.

Would love to see Meeke & Andersson...think Gronholm may be beyond competitive (harsh but...) hopefully Dave Richards has the team back on form!

Here's to a full calendar in 2012 for BMW MINI...muck of a shape but new blood is always good.
