    Sorry – long post coming…………..

As some of ye know I have been playing golf “properly” for over 2 years now and like probably everyone – started off ropey enough but eventually started getting consistent enough scores and was happy with my game. Towards the middle of last year I was shooting well into the 30’s stableford points every round with the odd near 40 but now I’m finding it hard to get over 20 with 28 one of my highest (23H/C) Have had the odd great round – got second place in a classic recently but the rest are not great at all.

This has got me thinking and wondering where it all started going wrong again and all I can narrow it down to is when I changed my irons. I started off with a cheapo set of Hippo Howson GBH irons but I changed to King Cobra 3100 I/H irons and think this might be part of it. While practicing chipping up and down my garden at home I decided to take out the Howsons and noticed I was over hitting them with less effort than the Cobras. I went in and got the 4 iron and blasted a few out over end of my garden (I live in the middle of nowhere!) and couldn’t believe how far I was hitting them. The cobras were recommended as a great improver set in a well established golf shop and was told they will bring on my game but I think they haven’t. I have a few lessons with a pro coming up so am going out today to make a note of my weak shots and will get him to have a look. BTW - driving is grand and putting is getting me out of trouble on lot of holes.

Could it be that the irons just don’t suit me? At the moment I’m gonna concentrate on lessons and see will that help but wil change the irons if I need to.
