Re seeded a field on July 2nd. Lovely crop of grass growing well but some weeds starting to come. I notice little small clover plants just starting to come as well. Should I spray and what is best product ???

Personally I wouldn't spray as you risk damaging or stunting the clover growth - even if you use a clover friendly product. What type of weeds are coming up? If its Redshank then it will disappear itself if its topped. Most other weeds will be smothered by the regrowth after the first eating too.

    What weeds are they?

In a similiar situation myself - altho my resed is a bit older, am just finishing first grazing now.

While there is some redshank, I have some thistle, a small bit of chickweed, some silverfern (I think its called silverfern) but a LOT of docks after coming. (There was no docks before the reseeding, so annoyed and perplexed as to where they came from)

I put in clover which has come on well enough. Field is being grazed now, and was planning to spray it maybe the end o this week with "Undersown"
Apparently this will kill docks (and other weeds) but shouldnt damage the clover.
If it was just redshank as you say Reilg, I wouldnt be too pushed, but I would prefer to get rid of the docks before they take complete hold...

Anyone have experience of using undersown on docks in clover reseeds?

I have docks and some thistles in my reseed, will top them, last year had some docks too in a reseed but they died out.

Really? I would have thought that docks would only get worse as time went on...

I thought they would too last year when they appeared in a reseeded field, there was a big patch of them.
However this year no sign of them, maybe the weather didn't suit but all I know is they didn't survive past last year, maybe the roots weren't established and the conditions weren't right, very wet to very cold winter.

I'm no expert, just saying what happened and I don't know if it will happen again.....thats my disclaimer.

i put in earlier this year and they were lot of weeds in it and docks to sprayedit with undersow and grazed it 2 weeks affer, let it off for silage now and there are not a weed in it, i would use it again it is the only thing that has killed docks thinking of trying it on the other feilds but i think the secret is to spray it early in the year when it will not have as much affect on clover, i will be trying it next year so will keep ya informed

why is it no one ever tells you about the weeds when you are reseeding in the spring:mad: I wonder is there as much weeds when you reseed in the autumn

I read that seeds can survive in the ground upto 40 years but sometimes one wonders if they come with the seed.

btw if you have a lot of docks it would be better to spray rather than risking them getting established.

i always use allistel i think it is really good
it is a bit expensive but is clover friendly or so they claim
that s my opinion and i would spray even if there was not many weeds
i just put it over a ten year period so that way it seems pretty cheap
