Apologies if this has been asked before.

My OH and I are getting married next May and don't like the idea of a Church wedding. The only problem is that I've never been to a wedding that didnt take place in a church!

I have no idea what happens/whats involved in a Civil Ceremony besides the lack of God :)

Any help would be most appreciated.

It is a lot similar to a church wedding, but firstly it does not take place in the context of a mass, and secondly there is no mention of God, religion or souls.

As there is no mass, etc, then civic ceremonies are usually a lot shorter, too. You're in and out in about half an hour.

We were at one at the start of the month and it was really lovely. The bride still walked down the ailse (it was alot shorter though!) and they said their own vows. It was alot shorter than a mass and more personal. They lit unity candles and they had two songs sung while they signed the papers and took photos. It was really nice.

We're having a ceremony on the grounds where we will be eating.
It will be about 10 mins long.
Discuss your options with your Civil Registrar.

sorry - I don't mean it in a smart way, just that its been asked and answered loads already, so to avoid boring the hell out of everyone and telling you what has already been said, I just thought the easiest thing would be to point you in the right direction! :)

BTW our ceremony was about 45 mins, not 10!
