Mate of mine has the following problem. He has a Panny 50" Full HD Plasma , PS3 and a home cinema system (which I think is Panasonic and not a bluray player just normal dvd). Problem is that there is only 1 hdmi slot on the home cinema system and he wants to play blurays through it.

Can someone tell me if there is a lead or something else that will allow him to plug his PS3 into his tv and the home cinema at the same time to get the full effect of the BluRay surround sound.

get the full effect of the BluRay surround sound

In short, no, not full hd audio, not from a ps3. You can as already said possibly use an optical cable and downmix hd audio to full bit rate dts of your receiver can decode it from an external source.
